Sicurezza for safety in mobility

May 12, 2025

Safety in mobility has long been about more than just installing cameras. Today, it is a complex interplay of technology, regulation, design and the interaction of various players. Whether on urban roads, in buses, car parks or in driver cabs, every detail can make the difference between a safe or risky journey. With intelligent, integrated and adaptable solutions, mobility is evolving not only towards greater efficiency, but also towards a significantly higher level of safety. Companies such as Dahua Technology and Provision-ISR are making a significant contribution to this development.

The protection of people, vehicles and infrastructure remains a key objective, regardless of whether it concerns inner-city traffic or interregional transport routes. At the same time, efficiency and mobility flows must not be compromised.

Today, modern mobility security encompasses a wide range of technical and strategic approaches, from advanced video surveillance and artificial intelligence to cyber security. In this complex, dynamically evolving environment, providers such as Dahua Technology and Provision-ISR offer solutions that meet the increasingly specialised requirements of individual sectors.

Road and rail transport: security challenges in public transport

Video surveillance in mobile vehicles differs fundamentally from stationary applications. Its implementation requires specific certifications, technical adaptations and regulatory requirements. Luca Pari, BU Sales Manager Italy at Dahua Technology, points this out. The company has been developing security solutions for public transport for many years – both on the road (buses) and on rail (trams, trains, light rail).

Over 8,000 systems have already been installed in Italy in collaboration with more than 50 transport companies. The systems go beyond mere video recording and integrate functions such as passenger counting, blind spot monitoring, rear view cameras and 360° cameras to assist with driving manoeuvres.

The latest developments include the integration of artificial intelligence via ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and DSM (Driver Status Monitoring) systems. While ADAS detects skidding, sudden braking or obstacles, DSM monitors the condition of the driver – for example, in terms of distraction or fatigue. Data protection plays a central role here: instead of recordings, visual and acoustic warnings are issued in real time without video recording.

The protection of drivers is also addressed. Emergency buttons enable immediate image transmission to the control centre in the event of an attack. Dahua relies on tailor-made solutions: every vehicle has its own requirements. The systems are installed by certified installation partners, often integrated into existing infrastructures. If necessary, the firmware can also be adapted – for example, for event processing after an incident or for communication via proprietary protocols.

Provision-ISR: Focus on urban security and cyber protection

While Dahua focuses on vehicle security, Provision-ISR focuses on urban spaces and infrastructure. The company specialises in intelligent video surveillance and protecting its systems against cyber threats. According to Leonardo Severi, Technical Manager at Provision-ISR Italia, the company is active in around 50 countries and focuses exclusively on professional video surveillance solutions.

A key area of application is automated parking management and access control using number plate recognition. In addition to recording entries, the systems also enable automatic warnings to be issued in the event of unusual behaviour or unauthorised parking. AI is used to reconstruct complex scenarios and detect anomalies such as loitering, intrusion attempts or suspicious movements.

A central element is the combination of intelligent hardware with powerful software. A central control centre can monitor large areas, process data in real time and react immediately – improving both security and organisational efficiency in the monitored areas.

A unique selling point of Provision-ISR is its consultative sales approach. The products are sold exclusively through professional distributors – not through online shops or general trading platforms. This enables highly specialised support and customised system solutions. While the hardware is versatile, the software offers the real added value: it enables real-time notifications, forensic analysis and situation-specific video evaluations, among other things.

The company has its own training centre in Arezzo, Italy, and supports partners with webinars, tutorials and technical training courses. Its direct technical support is also worth highlighting: unlike automated call centres, specialist staff are on hand to support project managers at all stages, from product selection to after-sales service.

Outlook: innovations at the 2025 security trade fair

Both companies are planning to participate in the upcoming edition of the Sicurezza 2025 security trade fair. There, they will present new developments in the fields of artificial intelligence, data centralisation and infrastructure protection. Among other things, Dahua is announcing new features for protecting passengers and drivers, as well as greater integration of existing systems. Provision-ISR is focusing on customised software solutions, AI-based applications and further developments in the field of access control – always taking into account increasing cyber security requirements.
