Argus turnstiles from dormakaba in indoor areas
The Hirschvogel Group, headquartered in the Upper Bavarian town of Denklingen, is one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers in the field of forging steel and aluminium – components from Hirschvogel can be found in almost every car in Germany and in almost every third car worldwide. The independent group of companies has nine production plants in Europe, Asia and America. Almost half of the approximately 6,300 employees work in Bavaria. In line with its motto ‘Traditionally innovative’, Hirschvogel not only reliably supplies its customers with technically sophisticated components, but also develops the components necessary for tomorrow’s mobility in close consultation with leading vehicle manufacturers and suppliers. In Denklingen, for example, drive-independent components are produced using the latest manufacturing technology.
At the headquarters in Denklingen, where around 2,200 employees work, all the forging processes for steel and their combinations are used. In addition to the 16 production halls, the new central building with the company restaurant on the ground floor has been built in recent years. In addition to the staff restaurant and visitor reception, the new building also houses, among other things, offices designed according to the latest criteria, the Frank Hirschvogel Foundation, the management of the holding company and the central data centre.
It was of course intended that the new central building should be comprehensively secured by an access control system. ‘Perimeter protection was very important to us. We wanted comprehensive protection of our very large site and important areas inside the building,’ emphasises Erwin Waibl, Head of Facility Management at Hirschvogel Umformtechnik GmbH. The company obtained three offers and then once again chose Bavaria Zeitsysteme as the overall supplier of dormakaba systems. This is because Bavaria and dormakaba are proven suppliers. In 2017, they already equipped the sites in Denklingen, Schongau, Mexico and Marksuhl (only time recording) with the Kaba exos access management system and the b-comm ERP time recording solution connected to SAP. ‘We have always had a good working relationship with Bavaria and with this company we have a single point of contact for everything, so everything from a single source,’ explains Erwin Waibl.
Bavaria Zeitsysteme GmbH provided comprehensive advice and support and implemented the project from planning to delivery, installation and commissioning of the turnstiles and access control and time recording hardware. The site was already completely fenced with 4 km of fencing to protect the outer perimeter. Then the perimeter protection was extended by 3 Kentaur turnstiles with online access readers, where employees must now identify themselves. Employees and visitors enter the new central building through two glass sliding doors from dormakaba. Inside the building, three Argus 60 sensor gate double units are located at the entrance to the staff restaurant, at the reception and in the connecting corridor between the administrative wing and the production halls. A SafeRoute escape door terminal is integrated into each of the interlock systems, enabling immediate opening in an emergency. Employees can clock in at a 97 00 time recording terminal at the building entrance, as they already can at the entrances to the 16 factory halls.
Like the external access points, some internal access points are also secured with online readers. The doors to the open-plan areas, to the offices, to the computer centre, to the plant rooms and to the health centre are equipped with 130 digital cylinders. All fire doors and corridor doors are additionally fitted with TS 98 door closers. An automatic door to the terrace of the company restaurant provides employees with a convenient passage to the outside.
Now that the entire site is fenced in, only authorised employees and suppliers can enter the premises. This is ensured by the access management system’s licence plate recognition, in which authorised car licence plates are stored. Hirschvogel is very satisfied with the access solution implemented. ‘Only authorised persons can enter. We know who, when and where they are allowed to enter and can also track access if necessary. The new system is flexible, you can quickly grant and withdraw rights. dormakaba’s access control and time recording systems work well,’ emphasises Erwin Waibl, Head of Facility Management. ’We want to digitise the entire factory premises and are therefore successively replacing the mechanical locking cylinders in the factory halls. Since 2017, we have installed around 400 digital cylinders. We are very satisfied with the systems from dormakaba, the support and the service from Bavaria Zeitsysteme GmbH.’
