BAU 2025 in Munich, the world’s leading trade fair for architecture, materials and systems, attracted more than 180,000 trade visitors from all over the world from 13 to 17 January. With a wide range of innovations in the fields of construction and building technology, the event provided the ideal stage for BKS GmbH to present its pioneering access control solutions. There was plenty to discover at the two-storey exhibition stand 339 in Hall C4.

Trade visitors to BAU 2025 were impressed by the innovations

One highlight was the presentation of the new ixalo double-knob cylinder, which was developed according to the latest security standards. Thanks to the latest encryption and communication technology, it offers the highest level of cyber security. The system’s intelligence, which was previously partially integrated in the knob, has now been fully relocated to the cylinder. This provides additional security and reliability. In addition, the battery life has been optimised and online programming by radio has been made possible, making the cylinder even more flexible and convenient. A revised lighting concept, unique in the industry, also ensures user-friendly operation.

Another new feature at the exhibition stand was the revised ixalo Gateway, which meets the highest standards with an improved wireless range and updated security functions. It enables the centralised management of up to 64 access points and allows the programming of authorisations both in a virtual network and online via radio. In addition, users can monitor the battery status of the access points and read out access lists. Thanks to its versatile integration options, for example with intruder or fire alarm systems, the gateway is becoming a central element of modern access control systems

Intelligent apps for more security, convenience and efficiency

The new ‘ixalo Key’ app, which allows facility managers to easily assign and manage access authorisations, received particular attention. With ‘KeyManager’, access rights can be sent securely to stored e-mail addresses and seamlessly documented. At the same time, the app enables the real-time monitoring of the status of access points, such as battery power or active authorisations. Thanks to modern encryption technologies, the app offers maximum security against cyber attacks. A permanent internet connection is not required, so the app also works reliably in basement rooms at all times. In addition, it supports smartphone-based access (mobile access), which further increases convenience.

The BKS innovations were rounded off by the BKS | smart app, which turns the smartphone into a central tool for managing small locking systems. The cloud-based solution makes it possible to manage up to 25 access points and 100 users without the need for additional software or IT knowledge. The guest function can be used to assign access rights spontaneously and remotely. This function is particularly suitable for smaller companies such as doctors’ surgeries, tax consultancies or owner-managed hotels. At the trade fair, BKS presented the BKS | Hotel solution, which is specially tailored to the requirements of owner-managed hotels. They can either use the software developed by BKS or integrate the solution into existing systems.

Positive response and international attention

In addition to the numerous innovations, BKS presented proven systems for hazard and building management as well as innovative escape and rescue route technology. One example that vividly illustrated the trade fair motto ‘System solutions from a single source’ was a multifunctional escape door. This can be unlocked quickly and, thanks to the motorised drive deadlock, only requires electricity on the inactive leaf side, while the active leaf side is equipped with coordinated mechanical components.

Overall, BKS GmbH was delighted with how the trade fair week went: ‘BAU 2025 has more than met our expectations. We had very high-quality discussions throughout the week. The high number of international customers was remarkable,’ emphasised Lutz Lüke, Head of Sales at BKS GmbH. ’The interest in our stand and our solutions was overwhelming, and we received a great deal of encouragement, especially with regard to our new electronic access solutions. These will be the focus at BKS throughout 2025.’

Thomas Polonyi, Managing Director of BKS GmbH, was also very satisfied with how the trade fair went and emphasised BAU as a valuable platform for maintaining existing customer contacts: ‘Right at the beginning of the year, such a large, international trade fair offers the ideal opportunity to come into direct contact with existing customers and exchange ideas.’
