Austria: Burgenland relies on FREQUENTIS software solution for video emergency calls

Emergency calls now also possible using real-time video telephony

Frequentis software solution FlagMii EML accelerates emergency communication

The Burgenland State Security Centre (LSZ) has opted for the multimedia solution FlagMii EML from Frequentis to enable multimedia emergency calls – a decisive contribution to modernising and optimising emergency rescue. The software solution was developed by the Italian company Regola, which has been a subsidiary of the Frequentis Group since 2022. The installation for the Burgenland Regional Emergency Services Centre marks the first introduction of this system in Austria.

‘The Frequentis Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution FlagMii EML for multimedia communication takes emergency call handling to a new level. For us, this is another important step in increasing public safety with our solutions and creating new ways of communication between emergency call centres and the public,’ says Frequentis CEO Norbert Haslacher.

FlagMii EML offers the possibility to support emergency calls with real-time video telephony. This gives both first responders and control centre staff a better overview of the situation at the scene of the accident and enables them to decide how to provide assistance in a more targeted manner – for example, by directly involving doctors in the emergency call. The multimedia session between the caller and the control centre employee can be started without the installation of an additional mobile application on the caller’s smartphone. It is possible to share the caller’s geo-location, which provides the control centre employee with valuable information – both until the emergency services arrive and beyond.

The software has been successfully integrated into the existing operations control system at the LSZ and enables control centre staff to trigger a FlagMii EML event quickly and easily directly from the existing system. The solution has also been comprehensively tested in terms of data protection, with particular emphasis placed on compliance with the highest data protection standards during its development.

The Burgenland Regional Emergency Response Centre operates a control centre with around 40 control centre employees. This is available 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. The central emergency numbers 122 (fire brigade), 144 (ambulance), 141 (medical emergency service) and 130 (regional warning centre) converge here. The control centre also organises ambulance services for the Red Cross (14844) and the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (14841), as well as health advice on 1450.
