Garrett is integrating its walk-through metal detector with the QPS201 security scanner from Rohde & Schwarz. The combined solution is ideal for high-risk applications such as person screening in prisons or loss prevention in the precious metals industry. Thanks to innovative millimeter wave technology, the QPS201 detects all types of objects, regardless of material. The Garrett Paragon walk-through metal detector perfectly complements millimeter wave detection and enables even more effective detection in high-security scenarios. It identifies even the smallest metallic objects or those hidden in body orifices, providing additional protection against hidden, body-worn threats.
Combining metal detectors with millimeter-wave security scanners combines the highest possible detection performance with convenience for operators and those being screened in a range of loss prevention and prison security applications. The solution is ideal for applications in which the detection of tiny or deeply buried metallic objects is required; however, thanks to the efficient and intuitive methods of the QPS201, it also offers the highest detection accuracy for non-metallic objects or metal powders. A lesser known fact is that many substances, despite their metallic origin, can only be reliably detected by metal detectors in solid form. The QPS201 security scanner from Rohde & Schwarz extends detection to metal powders, granules and compounds in liquids or chemicals. The metal detector, on the other hand, is able to detect metallic objects even in the folds of skin, body cavities and in the mouths of people, which is particularly important for prison security.
The integrated solution not only improves threat detection, but also maintains the privacy of the people being checked, setting the standard for modern, comprehensive and respectful security checks. The precise zone line display makes it much easier to carry out a targeted inspection. The logging of results and integration into the video surveillance system also ensures that forensic evidence is available if illegal objects are found. The combined solution is user-friendly and can be fully managed through the QPS201 display with integrated alarm indicator. The control is completely contactless. Neither millimetre wave technology nor metal detection poses a health risk to security personnel or those being screened, as radiation levels remain well below naturally occurring environmental electromagnetic radiation, unlike X-rays.
‘The combination of the different capabilities of metal detectors and millimeter-wave security scanners addresses the market demand for highly reliable security checks in the precious metals industry and in prisons,’ explains Andreas Hägele, VP Microwave Imaging at Rohde & Schwarz. ’With this integration, both Garrett and we are adding an additional layer of security to our offerings, which benefits our joint customers.’
‘Garrett is pleased to be working with Rohde & Schwarz. This has allowed us to integrate two powerful technologies to create a groundbreaking product. The enhanced detection capabilities enable our customers to enforce higher security standards in a range of settings, from workplaces and educational institutions to airports. At the same time, this will support new, innovative concepts for loss prevention and combating smuggling,’ said Steve Novakovich, CEO of Garrett Electronics.
