Axis Communications, the technology leader in network video, has received the IT security certification from the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) for 167 of its products. This ensures that the labelled products meet the recognised, applicable security requirements of the BSI. They offer transparent cyber security, reliability and guidance for customers when making purchasing decisions. Axis is the first video security technology manufacturer to apply the IT security label across its entire product portfolio, and is thus also specifically preparing for the EU’s Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).

The German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is the central point of contact for cybersecurity in Germany. The agency’s goal is to ensure the secure use of information and communication technology in all areas of society by promoting IT security and developing security standards, and thus to promote sustainable and secure digitalisation. Among other things, the BSI is responsible, for example, as the supervisory authority for the implementation of the EU NIS 2 directive in Germany. In addition, the BSI, as the central certification body for IT security in Germany, is promoting the topic of cyber security worldwide in cooperation with national and international partners.

The BSI’s IT security label, which is also increasingly gaining international recognition, is awarded to IT products and services that meet recognised security requirements and thus offer significant protection against cyber threats. It is voluntary for manufacturers – and creates transparency and orientation for the end user through independent issuance as well as ad hoc and event-driven reviews during its five-year term. The underlying requirements will also be successively aligned with the protection goals of the EU-CRA, which will become mandatory from 2027 – so being awarded the IT security mark is a good way to prepare for this upcoming regulation.

Axis has currently received the IT security mark for a total of 167 of its products in the ‘Smart Consumer Devices’ category. This includes all Axis products currently available that have the AXIS OS 11 and AXIS OS 12 operating systems and have been tested for compliance with ETSI EN 303 645. Meeting these technical requirements is a general and central prerequisite for obtaining the IT security label, while ETSI TS 103 701 and the BSI technical guideline TR-03173 serve as test specifications. All AXIS OS-based products launched in 2025 and in the future will also automatically undergo a compliance test to receive the IT security mark.

‘As the national cybersecurity authority, the BSI is a recognised and independent authority for IT security in Germany. We are therefore delighted to be the first video security technology manufacturer to receive the IT security seal for the full range of our product portfolio,’ says Tobias Metsch, Regional Director Middle Europe at Axis Communications. ’The IT security seal clearly shows our customers that they can trust Axis as a reliable partner. The label gives them the assurance that Axis, as a manufacturer, stands for current IT security requirements. The BSI checks this on a random and event-driven basis. In addition, by obtaining the IT security label, we are already anticipating the requirements of the EU Cyber Resilience Act and are consciously positioning ourselves as a pioneer in cyber security in the video security industry.’

‘I am pleased that the IT security mark is becoming increasingly established,’ says Sandro Amendola, Head of the Standardisation, Certification and Testing Department at the BSI. ’We are seeing growing interest from manufacturers and we take the time to advise and support each of them through the process – regardless of whether they are applying for the mark for one product or 200. Every single IT security label that we award increases transparency in IT security in the market.’
