Interior Minister Roman Poseck: ‘Our police are keeping up the pressure to prevent criminals from operating freely.’
On the 5th of June 2025, the ninth large-scale check this year took place in Frankfurt’s railway station district. A total of 102 people were checked during the operation. This resulted in 35 criminal proceedings and two administrative offence proceedings being initiated. Of these, 23 violations of the Residence Act, three violations of the Narcotics Act and one violation of the Weapons Act were identified. Four people were taken into custody, six were detained and two were transferred to prison on existing arrest warrants.
Interior Minister Roman Poseck commented on the police measures: “The police have been keeping up the pressure in the station district since the start of the inner city offensive in February 2024. Nine large-scale checks have already been carried out this year. We are staying on the ball. Our police are continuing to keep up the pressure so that criminals have no room to manoeuvre. In the station district in particular, we are continuing our consistent approach with targeted checks and a high police presence. The results of this large-scale check show that we are on the right track. Only recently, a group of Jamaican drug dealers was arrested by the police. One person who was required to leave the country has already been successfully deported; the authorities are working on two further cases of persons who are required to leave the country.
Frankfurt’s station district is still a hotspot with high crime rates and a lot of misery. Nevertheless, the situation has stabilised and, in some areas, has already improved noticeably. We are not there yet. It will take patience and cooperation from everyone involved. As a state, we have therefore launched a 7-point plan that focuses on repression and prevention. The police measures are helping to strengthen the objective security situation and increase the subjective feeling of safety. People should feel safe. To achieve this, everyone involved must pull together. We have a common interest in a high level of security and a good reputation for what is by far the largest city in Hesse. We will therefore continue to carry out further large-scale checks at short intervals.
We must do everything in our power to effectively break the cycle of consumption, misery and crime in the station district. In doing so, it is particularly important to break the magnetic effect that the station district has on addicts from a large area that extends far beyond Hesse. The police are doing their part with their consistent approach; others should also do their bit. Unfortunately, Frankfurt’s city politicians continue to act in a divided and inconsistent manner. There are still political circles in Frankfurt who are clearly not prepared to make real changes. However, from the state’s point of view, ‘business as usual’ is the wrong approach. We should work together to achieve a sustainable and lasting improvement in the situation in the station district.
