Agentic AI is already beginning to overtake generative AI

October 16, 2025

According to Omdia’s latest forecast for the enterprise agentic AI software market, it will grow from $1.5 billion in 2025 to $41.8 billion in 2030. This is one of the fastest-growing segments in enterprise technology.

According to the study, the analysis shows that agentic AI significantly outperforms traditional generative AI in similar market phases. While the initial 5-year CAGR (2022-2027) for generative AI is estimated at 90%, the projected 5-year CAGR (2024-2029) for agentic AI reaches an impressive 175%.

This accelerated adoption is driven by enterprise priorities in automation. Thirty-nine per cent of early adopters cite cost reduction and increased employee productivity as their primary motivations for adoption. Importantly, earlier investments in generative AI infrastructure have paved the way for easier market entry and faster development of agent-based AI, offering companies the opportunity to achieve faster returns.

‘The market for agentic AI is developing rapidly as companies prioritise automation capabilities,’ said Neil Dunay, Principal Forecaster at Omdia. ‘By 2030, agentic AI will account for 31% of the total generative AI market, up from just 6% in 2025.’ The forecast identifies automated code development as the largest use case, expected to reach £8.2 billion by 2030, closely followed by virtual assistants (e.g., customer support agents) at £7.7 billion.

Omdia’s full forecast includes detailed breakdowns by vertical industry, geographic region, workload type and use case, as well as strategic insights to guide investment decisions in this rapidly evolving environment.
