Apstec launches Merlin contactless metal screening system

January 29, 2026

Apstec Systems, a provider specialising in security screening, presented its new AI-powered metal detection system, Apstec Merlin, at the Intersec trade fair in Dubai. The solution sets new standards in non-invasive personnel screening and enables precise differentiation between security-relevant metal threats and everyday objects – without the need to remove personal items.

Intelligent threat detection without compromising convenience

Apstec Merlin is a walk-through metal screening system that uses artificial intelligence to differentiate between potential threats such as firearms or knives and harmless everyday objects such as mobile phones or keys.

This eliminates the need to empty pockets, significantly improving both throughput and user experience.

The system is specifically designed for high-traffic public areas, including transport hubs, event and entertainment venues, and sports stadiums. The aim is to ensure high security standards while reducing waiting times and operational complexity.

Efficient solution for high visitor numbers

Apstec Merlin combines high detection accuracy, cost-effective operation and easy integration into existing security processes. Thanks to its compact design, adaptability and intuitive operation, the system is particularly suitable for operators who need a powerful, scalable and non-invasive screening solution.

‘We are delighted to be able to present Apstec Merlin at Intersec,’ explains Niclas Gustafsson, Group CEO/COO of Apstec Systems. “Merlin represents a significant advance in the development of metal detection. The system offers a robust, intelligent and at the same time economical response to today’s security requirements.

Intersec is an ideal platform for us to reach decision-makers from the Gulf region and around the world.”

Seamless integration into modern security concepts

Apstec Merlin was specifically developed for environments where high throughput, reliability and user comfort are equally important. The system enables fast, accurate and continuous screening of individuals and their belongings without slowing down the access process or being perceived as disruptive.

Live demonstrations at Intersec

Visitors to the Apstec stand at Intersec had the opportunity to experience live demonstrations of the new Apstec Merlin. The company also presented its award-winning Apstec Falcon system, which enables AI-supported detection of explosives, weapons and narcotics.

With the launch of Apstec Merlin, Apstec Systems is underlining its commitment to providing innovative, practical and cost-effective security solutions for modern, high-traffic environments.
