Axis Communications has received SOC 2 Type 2 attestation, confirming the long-term effectiveness of its cloud security and operational processes through an independent audit. The certification underscores the growing importance of standardised cybersecurity credentials in the field of cloud-based security solutions.
The assessment covers the open cloud platform Axis Cloud Connect and several cloud-enabled applications, including Axis Device Manager Edge, Axis Device Manager Extend and Axis Body Worn Live. The audit examined not only the conceptual design of the security controls, but above all their consistent implementation in ongoing production operations.
Security certification throughout the entire operating period
Unlike selective security assessments, SOC 2 Type 2 analyses the actual performance of control mechanisms over a longer period of time. This confirms that technical and organisational security measures function continuously under real operating conditions.
The audit is based on the Trust Services Criteria of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), which cover areas such as security, availability and confidentiality. Such certifications are becoming increasingly important for providers of cloud-based platforms, as customers are no longer focusing solely on technical performance data, but are increasingly paying attention to auditable governance and security structures.
Cloud transformation is changing physical security requirements
This development shows how strongly the physical security industry is moving towards cloud-based architectures. Video management, device management and analysis functions are increasingly being provided via networked platforms. As a result, responsibility for cybersecurity is also shifting more towards platform providers and software ecosystems.
In this context, SOC 2 Type 2 is considered an important indicator of operational maturity, as it evaluates processes, risk management and continuous security controls beyond pure product functions. This provides integrators and end customers with an additional basis for decision-making when selecting cloud-enabled security solutions.
Building on existing compliance structures
The current attestation follows the SOC 2 Type 1 audit, which Axis had already completed in August 2024. While Type 1 confirms the implementation and design of security controls at a specific point in time, Type 2 evaluates their long-term effectiveness. This provides a more comprehensive picture of stability, resilience and process quality.
From a strategic perspective, this step signals a stronger focus on international compliance and security standards. Especially in the enterprise environment and for critical infrastructures, the requirements for verifiable cybersecurity are continuously increasing, making certifications an increasingly important competitive factor.
Significance for the market
With SOC 2 Type 2 certification, Axis is positioning itself in the growing segment of cloud-based security platforms, where cybersecurity is no longer considered a supplementary function but a key quality feature. The ability to continuously demonstrate verifiable security processes is likely to play a decisive role in the future – especially where physical security systems are converging with IT and cloud infrastructures.
