The supply of fire-fighting water in the state will be further improved. As the Ministry of the Interior announced today in Potsdam, applications for funding amounting to about 1.4 million euros have been approved. This means that a total of 61 wells and water tanks for fire-fighting purposes can be newly built or, in some cases, renovated in 15 districts, municipalities and cities. Minister of the Interior Michael Stübgen will hand over the first funding decisions to the municipality of Wiesenburg/Mark and the district of Niemegk (both in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district) next Friday (30 September 2022).

Minister of the Interior Michael Stübgen: “The fire brigades in our country do outstanding work – not only in the past forest fire season, but 365 days a year. To do this, the fire brigades need modern and powerful equipment. High-performance wells that provide life-saving water are one basis. That is why the state not only supports the purchase of fire-fighting vehicles and pumps, but also the construction or renovation of wells and water tanks. Even the smallest amounts help to improve the supply of fire-fighting water. Every euro is well invested, because it helps to protect us all.”

Further notifications of funding will be handed over personally by both Interior Minister Stübgen and the State Secretaries in the Ministry of the Interior, Uwe Schüler and Dr. Markus Grünewald, in the coming weeks. The funding is based on the funding guideline for fire water supply of July 2021. A total of 40 applications for 66 individual measures had to be decided for the application year 2021.
