Caverion Deutschland has secured a follow-on contract for the new Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport. As general contractor, the company will deliver the plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation and sprinkler systems for the head building at Pier G. The contract is with Fraport AG and is worth a low double-digit million-euro sum.
Caverion previously played a major role in installing building services in several areas of Terminal 3, including the main building and Piers G and J. The head building at Pier G is the pier’s central operational area and is currently being fully fitted out. It covers approximately 22,000 square metres of gross floor area across three levels. The building will handle passenger processing and include office space for up to 100 people.
Construction is taking place while the airport remains operational and within a security-restricted area, creating challenging installation conditions. Personnel and goods are screened several times a day, and around one-third of the work is carried out at night.
“We are building while flight operations continue, which makes the installation conditions more difficult,” says Jürgen Wüsteney, Head of Large Projects at Caverion.
The scope includes the installation of two chillers, each with a cooling capacity of 1 MW, and four air-handling units with a combined airflow of 130,000 cubic metres per hour. Caverion will also install approximately 7,000 sprinkler heads. Heating will be supplied from the existing infrastructure.
Caverion’s work began in October 2026 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
