“We are preserving what made Ritto successful while creating new opportunities for customers and partners alike.”
Miroslav Pavetic, Managing Director, Comelit Germany
The Comelit Group has completed its acquisition of the German door communication brand Ritto from Schneider Electric, marking a significant milestone in the Italian company’s long-term European growth strategy. The transaction, originally announced in January 2026, has now officially closed following the fulfilment of all customary closing conditions.
With the completion of the acquisition, Comelit assumes full responsibility for the Ritto brand, its existing product portfolio and its future development. More importantly, the transaction moves beyond strategic intent and into operational execution, opening a new chapter for both companies.
Ritto remains an independent brand
For installers, consultants, wholesalers and existing customers, Comelit’s message is deliberately focused on continuity. Ritto will continue to operate as an independent brand, while its established product lines, technical support and long-term spare parts availability will remain in place.
“Our most important message to customers, partners and the electrical trade is simple: you can continue to rely on Ritto—and now benefit from the strength of Comelit,” says Miroslav Pavetic, Managing Director of Comelit Germany. “We are preserving what made Ritto successful while creating new opportunities. Together, we offer customers greater technological choice, broader expertise and a long-term commitment to the German market.”
The emphasis on continuity reflects the realities of the building communications industry, where installed systems often remain in operation for decades and long-term serviceability is a critical purchasing criterion.
Building a stronger position in Germany
The acquisition significantly expands Comelit’s presence in one of Europe’s most important building communications markets. By combining Ritto’s extensive installed base and long-standing customer relationships with Comelit’s international technology portfolio, the company aims to strengthen its competitive position while broadening its offering across multiple market segments.
The combined portfolio now ranges from traditional audio door entry systems to advanced IP-based communications, video intercoms, access control, security technologies and integrated smart building solutions.
“For Comelit and Ritto, this marks the beginning of a new chapter,” says Edoardo Barzasi, CEO and Vice President of the Comelit Group. “We are bringing together the strength of a trusted German brand with Comelit’s international innovation capabilities and technological expertise. Our ambition is clear: to strengthen our position among Europe’s leading providers and ultimately become a market leader.”
Modernisation drives new opportunities
A major focus of the combined strategy will be Germany’s extensive installed base of existing door communication systems. Across residential buildings, commercial properties and public facilities, thousands of Ritto installations continue to operate after many years of service.
For property owners, housing companies and installers, complete replacement is often neither technically necessary nor economically attractive. Instead, demand increasingly centres on modernising existing systems while integrating new digital capabilities.
This is where the strengths of both companies complement one another. Ritto contributes decades of experience in the German retrofit market, while Comelit adds expertise in IP communications, video technologies, access management and intelligent building solutions. Together, the companies aim to provide migration paths that combine investment protection with future-ready technologies.
Germany becomes a strategic hub
Comelit’s German organisation will play a central role in the integration. Operations will be coordinated from the company’s office in Grevenbroich, which will serve as the focal point for sales, customer support, technical assistance and service activities.
According to the company, customers and partners will benefit from clearly defined local responsibilities and direct access to specialised teams, ensuring continuity throughout the integration process.
A broader European growth strategy
The acquisition of Ritto forms part of Comelit’s long-term strategy to expand both technologically and geographically. Founded in 1956 in Italy’s Val Seriana, Comelit has evolved from a specialist door entry manufacturer into an international provider of building communication, video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, fire safety and building automation solutions.
Today, the company operates in more than 96 countries, supported by nine subsidiaries, five representative offices and eight research and development centres. In 2025, the Group generated revenues exceeding €193 million and employed more than 1,000 people worldwide.
Growth has been driven not only through product development but also through targeted acquisitions. Previous additions—including PAC in the United Kingdom, Ingenium in Spain and Teletek in Bulgaria—have expanded Comelit’s technological capabilities and strengthened its presence across Europe. The integration of Ritto continues that strategy by reinforcing the company’s position in one of the continent’s largest building communications markets.
A signal for the European market
Beyond its immediate commercial impact, the completion of the transaction reflects a broader trend within the security and building technologies sector. As digitalisation, artificial intelligence and connected building platforms continue to reshape the industry, manufacturers are increasingly seeking broader portfolios and stronger technological ecosystems.
For Comelit, the acquisition represents more than the addition of a respected German brand. It expands the company’s installed customer base, strengthens its position in the modernisation market and enhances its ability to deliver integrated solutions spanning door communication, access control, security and intelligent buildings.
For existing Ritto customers, the message is one of continuity. For the wider market, it signals the emergence of another European technology group seeking to compete through scale, integration and long-term investment rather than product breadth alone.
