Construction of video surveillance system at Erfurt’s Anger square to begin in May

May 27, 2025

At the beginning of May, construction work will begin in Erfurt city centre to install a police video surveillance system. The work includes civil engineering and electrical installations in the area between the Angermuseum, the main post office building (near the ‘Mouse and Elephant’ sculpture) and the ‘Anger 1’ shopping centre. The measures will be carried out in stages and will require temporary closures and diversions. The Thuringian Ministry of the Interior, Municipal Affairs and Regional Development (TMIKL), the Erfurt city administration and the state police are advising of possible restrictions and asking for your understanding.

The aim of the measure is to set up a modern video surveillance system with a total of twelve cameras, which will be operated by the police from summer 2025. The technical infrastructure will be installed at three locations during May and June.

According to the TMIKL, the planned surveillance measure serves to avert danger, prevent crime and secure evidence if necessary. It will be implemented in close cooperation between the Thuringian police, the Erfurt city administration and other parties involved. Coordination was handled by the SAVE police working group, among others.

The camera systems are supplied by Dallmeier Systems GmbH, a company specialising in video technology based in Regensburg. The project was prepared through interdisciplinary coordination with various local and regional partners, including Erfurt’s public utility company, Erfurt’s public transport company (EVAG) and participating craft businesses.
