Dormakaba is expanding its portfolio for the financial sector with the new Apexx Strato Rotary. The keyless electronic locking system has been specifically developed for ATMs and is designed to secure the top service access panel in order to prevent unauthorised access, malware installations and so-called ‘jackpotting’ attacks.
The system protects a particularly sensitive access point on the ATM – the top service flap. Apexx Strato replaces traditional mechanical keys with digital authorisations based on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Access is granted via mobile credentials, which is intended to reduce risks associated with lost, copied or shared keys.
According to the company, organised attacks on ATMs are becoming increasingly prevalent. Jackpotting and cash-out methods, in particular, highlight the weaknesses of conventional key-based systems. Dormakaba is therefore positioning the new solution as a response to increasing demands for physical security and traceability.
Key features include the individual assignment of digital access rights for service technicians. This allows authorisations to be managed on a person-by-person basis and responsibilities to be clearly assigned. In addition, the system automatically documents all opening and closing operations and generates auditable data without the need for manual logs.
Furthermore, the solution offers real-time monitoring of door and bolt status. This provides operators with feedback on whether the maintenance flap has been opened and closed correctly.
Authorisation management is also centralised: user rights can be added, changed or revoked remotely without the need for on-site intervention. This can simplify administration, particularly for large ATM fleets.
The new lock integrates with the Dormakaba Apexx Software Platform and complements existing solutions such as Cenconx and Axessor Apexx. The aim is to create a unified security ecosystem for operators, banks, retailers, cash-in-transit service providers and service organisations.
