Dr. Peter Schwark to become new Chief EThe Deputy Chief Executive of the German Insurance Association (GDV), Dr Peter Schwark, will become the new Chief Executive of the Federal Association of the Security Industry (BDSW) and the Federal Association of German Money and Valuables Services (BDGW), based in Berlin, on 1 November 2023. This was announced by BDSW President Gregor Lehnert and BDGW Chairman Michael Mewes in Berlin. “With Dr. Peter Schwark, we were able to win over an association manager with many years of experience for the task of representing the interests of the security industry,” said Lehnert. Michael Mewes added: “As a networker, lobbyist and public relations person, we are convinced that he is the right person to lead the associations of the security industry into the future.” The new manager of the association was also positive about his upcoming task: “The security industry is making an increasingly important contribution to internal security in Germany in many places. I am very much looking forward to being able to represent the interests and concerns of the qualified security service providers in Germany as Chief Executive Officer.”

Dr. Peter Schwark (54) brings with him a wide range of experience from his successful career in trade associations. The graduate and doctor of economics began in 1995 as a research assistant for “General Economic Policy” at the Federation of German Industries in Cologne. Just one year later, he became a consultant in the office of the President and Chief Executive Officer. In 1999, Schwark moved to GDV in Berlin, where he was responsible for “Social Policy” and “Press and Information”, among other things, before being appointed to the Executive Board in 2008. He has been Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GDV since 2020. He has also served as a member of the supervisory boards of various insurance companies.

“We are very pleased that Dr. Schwark will take on the challenging task as Chief Executive Officer of the security industry associations,” said Gregor Lehnert. “We are currently in a crucial phase with the development of the new Security Industry Act, the effects of the government’s minimum wage policy and the tense situation on the labour market. Here, the companies need support from the association side, which is guaranteed with our election of Dr Schwark as the new Chief Executive,” the President concluded.
