Eagle Eye Networks, a provider of cloud-based video surveillance, has unveiled Eagle Eye Gun Detection, a new security solution that offers schools and businesses an additional layer of protection. The solution integrates seamlessly with existing security camera systems and infrastructure, marking an industry milestone: Eagle Eye Networks is the first company to integrate gun detection directly into its platform.
Early detection saves lives
Millions of surveillance cameras are installed worldwide – until now, mostly as passive recording devices. With Eagle Eye Gun Detection, these systems become proactive security tools that use artificial intelligence to detect drawn firearms, buying valuable time to initiate protective measures and save lives.
In combination with Eagle Eye 911 Camera Sharing, emergency call centres also gain secure access to live images and can provide emergency responders with crucial information about the situation on the ground.
Three-stage verification for maximum accuracy
To ensure the most accurate visual weapon detection possible, Eagle Eye uses a triple-verified system that combines two levels of AI with human review:
- Rapid Edge AI: Recorded video streams are analysed locally in real time to detect potentially drawn weapons.
- Advanced Cloud AI: Suspicious footage is transmitted to the cloud, where a large-scale AI model performs a deeper analysis and reduces false alarms.
- Human Review Service: Trained professionals then review the detection results before automatically triggering notifications and alarm logs – such as text messages, phone calls or emails to security personnel, police and emergency services.
An integrative, open security system
As part of the Eagle Eye Cloud VMS (Video Management System), weapon detection is fully integrated – and at the same time open to expansion. Customers can add further AI functions and easily integrate third-party systems.
Eagle Eye Gun Detection also works hand in hand with Eagle Eye 911 Camera Sharing to give emergency responders immediate access to relevant camera footage in the event of an incident, significantly reducing response times.
Contributing to a comprehensive security strategy
Eagle Eye emphasises that no single system can completely prevent gun violence. Effective protection requires a multi-layered approach combining technical and organisational measures – from access controls and metal detectors to training and emergency drills. Eagle Eye Gun Detection complements these measures with a crucial technological component that improves prevention and responsiveness.
Voices from the field
‘AI-powered, triple-verified weapon detection that works with existing security systems is a game changer. Every university should be doing this,’ – H.E. Jenkins, Chief of Police, St. Thomas University, Houston
‘We’ve been using Eagle Eye Cloud VMS for over a decade – the integration of gun detection was seamless. Thanks to real-time notifications and human verification, we know immediately when there is a threat,’ – Joshua Baer, Founder & CEO, Capital Factory, Austin
Dean Drako, CEO of Eagle Eye Networks, sums it up: “Our mission is to make the world a safer place. The introduction of Eagle Eye Gun Detection is much more than a new product – it is part of a collaborative initiative for safety and security.”
