Permanently installed acoustic camera in medium- and high-voltage environments

August 12, 2026

Flir, a Teledyne Technologies brand, has launched the Si2a PD, its first fixed acoustic imaging solution for continuous monitoring of electrical assets in medium- and high-voltage environments.

Designed for substations, switchgear, transformers and gas-insulated systems, the camera detects, locates, classifies and assesses partial discharge, corona discharge and arcing from distances of up to 200 metres. Continuous 24/7 monitoring is intended to capture intermittent faults that may be missed during scheduled inspections, helping operators identify potential failures before they result in outages.

The Si2a PD combines acoustic imaging with AI-supported analysis and features an IP66-rated enclosure for demanding outdoor and industrial environments. Integration with the Flir AssetLink ecosystem supports event tracking, data management and digital maintenance workflows.

The Flir Si2a PD has been available since 30 June 2026.
