Global security technology company Giesecke+Devrient (G+D), the leading provider of eSIM technology, is introducing a new cloud-based eSIM solution based on Amazon Web Services (AWS). It combines G+D’s proven digital security with the cloud agility and scalability of AWS. This enables companies to securely deploy and manage devices with eSIM connectivity worldwide.
As part of the new collaboration between G+D and AWS, eSIM workloads will be transferred to the AWS cloud environment. Users will benefit from GSMA compliance and the fundamental security of G+D solutions and the highly available cloud infrastructure of AWS. This also enables global deployment and connectivity solutions with low latency across multiple regions.
“As pioneers in the field of SIM and eSIM and as a market leader in SecurityTech for over 170 years, we can now introduce another industry innovation through our collaboration with AWS,” emphasizes Philipp Schulte, CEO of G+D Mobile Security. “By introducing eSIM in the cloud and increasing agility and scalability, we will accelerate the adoption of eSIM in both consumer and IoT applications. This enables us to offer our users a stable, future-proof, and cost-effective solution. Together with AWS’s innovative solutions, they benefit from an attractive offering that can be quickly adapted to their changing requirements.”
With this new solution, G+D and AWS are also addressing key industry requirements. The increasing proliferation of pure eSIM devices in global telecommunications markets last year has led to a significant shift toward industry-wide adoption of eSIM for both consumer and IoT applications. Telecommunications operators are therefore faced with the task of ensuring rapid device onboarding and elastic scaling of eSIM provisioning, especially during peak usage periods. In addition, ensuring end-to-end security is particularly important for the introduction of SGP.32 (IoT eSIM) and SGP.22 (consumer eSIM) compatible devices.
“We have been successfully using G+D’s eSIM services for more than a decade. eSIM has made a breakthrough and is now the most important means of connecting to our network,” comments Gordon Mansfield, VP Global Technology Planning at AT&T. “The ability to distribute services across multiple GSMA-certified cloud locations gives us the opportunity to expand our offering globally to a wide range of industries. The fact that we can now also purchase G+D’s market-leading technology directly through the AWS Marketplace represents a breakthrough in terms of time-to-market on a global scale.”
“The launch of this global IoT connectivity solution by Giesecke+Devrient demonstrates how AWS’s secure, scalable infrastructure is driving innovation in the telecommunications industry,” said Jan Hofmeyr, Vice President, Telecommunications at AWS. “G+D’s reputation as a global leader in advanced security solutions, combined with AWS’s scalable cloud capabilities, provides a powerful foundation for expanding eSIM connectivity to consumer and IoT applications. This collaboration also reflects the growing momentum we are seeing in the industry toward cloud-native approaches to IoT connectivity.”
The new agreement between G+D and AWS expands the collaboration between the two companies. G+D is already using its SGP.32 eSIM technology for Amazon’s eero signal device, which is one of the first commercial applications of this technology. G+D will also offer its solutions through the AWS Marketplace, ensuring broad availability of the technology for mobile operators, enterprises, and IoT service providers.
