Security associations strengthen joint representation of interests
The three leading associations in the German security industry – the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS), the Federal Association of the Security Industry (BDSW) and the Association for Security in Business (VSW) – signed a memorandum of understanding in Berlin today. The aim of the agreement is to intensify cooperation between the associations, exploit synergies and represent the common interests of the security industry even more effectively vis-à-vis politicians, authorities, business and the public.
‘The security industry faces a variety of challenges – from geopolitical tensions and a shortage of skilled workers to digitalisation and new threats. In order to respond to these developments, the industry needs a coordinated voice,’ explained Alexander Borgschulze, President of the BDLS. The memorandum creates the basis for joining forces and representing common positions in a unified manner.
The Memorandum of Understanding sets out the principles, objectives and forms of cooperation between the three associations. These include regular coordination on overarching issues and political developments, joint communication with politicians, the media and other stakeholders, the coordination of positions and statements, and the organisation of joint events, expert forums and initiatives.
‘With this agreement, we are strengthening the perception of the security industry as an important component of public and economic security,’ emphasised Werner Landstorfer, President of the BDSW. ‘Our industry makes a decisive contribution to protecting critical infrastructure, companies and people. This commitment deserves a clear and united voice.’
Johannes Strümpfel, President of the VSW, underlined the importance of the memorandum: ‘The security interests of the German economy are becoming increasingly important strategically. Through our enhanced cooperation, we are ensuring that these interests are pooled and competently incorporated into political and social decision-making processes.’
The memorandum represents a joint declaration of intent by the three associations to shape their cooperation in a long-term and trusting manner. It enters into force upon signature and is valid indefinitely.
