Advancing Aerial Intelligence for Security, Defence, and Inspection Applications

Gremsy, a leading innovator in professional UAV payload and gimbal solutions, has announced a major expansion of its NDAA-compliant product portfolio through a close collaboration with Teledyne FLIR OEM. The integration of Teledyne FLIR’s Boson®+ longwave infrared (LWIR) thermal camera module into Gremsy’s new ORUS-L and Lynx payloads establishes a new benchmark in thermal imaging and intelligent aerial sensing technology.

This development is part of the Thermal by FLIR program, a cooperative platform supporting OEMs in leveraging Teledyne FLIR’s ITAR-free infrared modules to accelerate development cycles, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Redefining UAV Payload Performance

Both new payloads — Lynx NDAA and ORUS-L NDAA — demonstrate Gremsy’s commitment to combining compact design with high-end sensor integration. Built for diverse operational environments, they provide enhanced situational awareness, data reliability, and mission flexibility across security, public safety, industrial inspection, and defense applications.

At the core of both payloads lies Teledyne FLIR’s Boson+ module, which offers exceptional image quality, improved thermal sensitivity, and robust performance in the most demanding conditions. The Boson+’s Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) optimization allows drone operators to extend flight endurance while maintaining superior imaging performance — an essential factor in surveillance and reconnaissance missions that require efficiency and precision.

Lynx NDAA: Compact ISR Powerhouse

The Lynx NDAA payload is engineered for small and mid-sized UAV platforms where weight, energy consumption, and agility are critical. With its dual visible and thermal imaging capabilities, Lynx provides a tactical edge for public safety, search-and-rescue, defense, and drone-as-first-responder (DFR) operations.

The compact structure minimizes SWaP challenges, directly translating to longer flight times and increased operational range. By delivering high-resolution imagery and thermal data simultaneously, Lynx enables rapid situational assessment and supports decision-making in dynamic environments where seconds matter.

ORUS-L NDAA: Intelligent Spherical Payload with Edge AI

Representing a leap in UAV payload architecture, the ORUS-L NDAA introduces a spherical form factor that combines aerodynamic efficiency, enhanced protection, and 360° sensor integration. Rated IP55 for environmental resilience, the payload is capable of maintaining performance at flight speeds of up to 100 km/h across both VTOL and fixed-wing aircraft.

Powered by NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX, ORUS-L executes real-time AI inference tasks directly at the edge, including object detection, autonomous tracking, and target locking. This integration of Edge AI eliminates latency and enables mission-critical responsiveness — key for inspection, reconnaissance, and tactical operations.

The payload includes an electro-optical (EO) camera, a radiometric Boson+ thermal module, and a laser range finder (LRF), delivering a comprehensive multi-sensor solution optimized for critical infrastructure monitoring, search operations, and public safety deployments.

Expanding the Spherical Ecosystem

Gremsy’s Chief Technology Officer, Huy Pham, describes the ORUS-L and Lynx systems as foundational components of a growing spherical payload ecosystem. “The spherical design ensures mechanical protection, aerodynamic stability, and modular adaptability,” he explains. “With Teledyne FLIR’s advanced thermal imaging integrated at the core, operators gain unparalleled visual and thermal insight across a wide range of aerial applications.”

This alignment between Gremsy’s precision-engineered gimbal systems and Teledyne FLIR’s thermal technology marks a significant step toward the next generation of intelligent UAV payloads — capable of delivering real-time data processing, enhanced autonomy, and multi-domain compatibility.

Compliance, Innovation, and Market Impact

The inclusion of the Boson+ NDAA-compliant and ITAR-free thermal modules ensures that both payloads meet the stringent security and regulatory standards required for government and defense applications, while also remaining accessible to commercial and international markets.

Through the Thermal by FLIR program, Gremsy benefits from a streamlined integration framework that reduces development time and ensures long-term supply chain stability — critical factors for OEMs and system integrators operating in regulated industries.

Conclusion

By combining AI-driven processing, lightweight design, and advanced thermal imaging, Gremsy’s latest payloads push the boundaries of aerial sensing technology. The Lynx and ORUS-L platforms exemplify how NDAA-compliant systems can deliver high performance without compromise — enabling operators across the security, defense, and industrial sectors to achieve superior situational awareness and operational efficiency.
