Reliable perimeter protection through thermal imaging detection, visual verification in 4K and AI-powered object classification
Axis Communications, a technology leader in network video, is launching the AXIS Q2802-E Bispectral Camera, an all-in-one network camera that combines a high-resolution thermal imaging sensor with a 4K visual sensor. The bispectral camera first detects objects via thermal imaging analysis and then confirms the detection using the visual image. This makes the new camera particularly suitable for application scenarios where the reliable detection and visual verification of objects is crucial for perimeter protection in extensive outdoor areas.
The new all-in-one bispectral camera from Axis Communications – the AXIS Q2802-E – features a high-resolution VGA thermal imaging sensor with a thermal sensitivity of less than 20 millikelvin (NETD less than 20 mK @25 °C, F1.0), thereby offering a particularly low false alarm rate. Axis also combines thermal imaging technology in this device with a high-precision 4K image sensor and four lens options for wider and narrower fields of view. An image fusion function seamlessly combines the camera’s thermal and visual images into a single video stream by merging the data from both sources to create a comprehensive overall picture. The result is a significantly improved density of information, enabling security personnel to assess the situation more quickly and thus respond more effectively to potential incidents.
Various features for a greater level of situational awareness
This is supported by additional features that further enhance situational awareness: for example, the pre-installed AXIS Object Analytics software can detect, recognise, classify, track and count objects directly within the field of view. In demanding application scenarios where even more comprehensive perimeter protection is required, the separately available AXIS Perimeter Defender analysis software also enables reliable detection of people and vehicles across large areas in the thermal image stream. The camera can perform these powerful, AI-powered analysis functions directly on the device (‘on the edge’) via an integrated deep learning processing unit (DLPU). The relevant data is also processed locally, which significantly reduces requirements for data transmission, bandwidth and server capacity – and thus the associated costs.
Furthermore, Axis Edge Vault, a hardware-based cybersecurity platform, protects the integrity of the device, enables secure operations and provides FIPS 140-3 Level 3-certified secure storage, management and use of cryptographic keys.
The robust camera, with IP66, IP67 and NEMA 4X protection ratings, also features a vandal-resistant IK10-rated housing and can withstand wind speeds of over 60 metres per second or 216 kilometres per hour. It also offers flexible mounting options, including installation on a separately available positioning unit or via a wall bracket.
