HIKMICRO expands firefighting portfolio with rugged handheld thermal cameras

HIKMICRO has broadened its range of thermal imaging solutions for emergency response professionals with an expanded line-up of devices engineered for operation in the harshest environments. Designed under the motto *“Born of fire, built for more,”* the series targets users who depend on rapid, reliable visual information when visibility is compromised and conditions leave no room for error.

Fast deployment in extreme environments

The pocket-sized FP21 is positioned as an accessible entry into professional-grade firefighting thermal imaging. Built for immediate use at the scene, it combines a compact form factor with a bright 3.2-inch LCD display, enabling responders to interpret critical information within seconds. SuperIR image enhancement technology is designed to cut through smoke, dust and darkness, revealing heat sources and structural details that might otherwise remain hidden.

The camera housing is manufactured from impact-resistant PPSU polymer and carries an IP67 rating for dust and water protection. It is specified to withstand temperatures up to 260 °C (500 °F), supporting operation in areas where conventional equipment may fail. Automatic Gain Control (AGC) and Optimised Detail Enhancement (ODE) dynamically adapt image presentation to changing scenarios, reducing the need for manual adjustments.

Extended capabilities for command and inspection

Complementing the FP21, the FP31 adds a visual camera alongside the thermal detector and provides higher resolution, a wider field of view, extended temperature measurement range and greater storage capacity. Two integrated laser modules – a visible pointer and a laser rangefinder – allow users to designate targets and communicate distances directly during rescue or assessment operations.

Lightweight options for frontline teams

For firefighters and volunteers requiring mobility, the FB21 delivers a sensitive VOx detector (NETD < 40 mK), image optimisation algorithms and a 3.2-inch colour screen within an IP65-protected enclosure. Eight colour palettes are available across the handheld range, supporting interpretation in heavy smoke or total darkness.

High performance for complex missions

At the upper end of the portfolio, the FT31 is widely used in rescue and high-risk deployments. Featuring a high-resolution VOx sensor (NETD < 35 mK), ODE processing and IP67 certification, the unit also offers a 60 Hz frame rate for smooth imaging when scanning large areas or tracking moving subjects.

According to Shadow Zhang, Overseas Brand Manager at HIKMICRO, thermal imagers used inside burning structures must go beyond basic functionality: they need to endure intense stress while continuing to deliver dependable clarity. The latest additions, he notes, are intended to reflect that expectation of durability and operational confidence.

Beyond firefighting

While optimised for emergency services, the cameras are equally suited to preventive maintenance and safety tasks in industry and infrastructure. Typical applications include detecting overheated electrical components, identifying mechanical faults, locating insulation failures, supporting search-and-rescue missions in remote terrain, and improving situational awareness in security or maritime environments.

With the new series, HIKMICRO continues to emphasise robustness, affordability and ease of use, aligning advanced thermal imaging performance with the practical requirements of professionals working under pressure.
