Integrate the online ID card easily: Test access for service providers

March 20, 2023

  • Campaign “AusweisIDent Easy” launched by Governikus, Bundesdruckerei GmbH and D-Trust for companies, public authorities and educational institutions
  • Free starter packages with a total of 100 AusweisIDent Easy test accesses available
  • Increasing use of the online ID card for identification on the Internet

With the campaign AusweisIDent Easy, Governikus and D-Trust in cooperation with Bundesdruckerei GmbH are now offering providers of Internet services a free test system for the online ID card as a means of identification. Companies, public authorities and educational institutions can try out “AusweisIDent Easy” quickly and easily. “The increasing use of the online ID card is a signal to providers of web services that it is worthwhile to integrate it as a secure and simple identification option,” says Kim Nguyen, Managing Director of D-Trust and head of the Trusted Services business area. “AusweisIDent Easy” allows service providers to get to know the system free of charge, without any time or success pressure and without being bound by a contract. The starter packages consist of an AusweisIDent Easy test access, an eID test badge and a quick guide to integration. One of the 100 packages can be ordered per provider – via www.ausweisident.de. If there is sufficient demand, the “AusweisIDent Easy” campaign will be repeated. “So far, many interested providers have shied away from the supposed integration effort – with IDent Easy, we want to lower this hurdle and show how easily and quickly the online ID can be integrated into their own infrastructure,” says Hartje Bruns, responsible Director Products of the “Secure Identities” division at Governikus.

According to the EU Commission, by 2030 80 percent of people in Europe should use their digital identity to access all essential public services and eHealth services, for example to access their patient data. In Germany, citizens are increasingly using their ID card online for identification purposes: more than 5.32 million times in 2022, for example to use the tax portal Elster, to check their personal score at the Federal Motor Transport Authority or to identify themselves for the electronic patient file. A similar picture is shown by the high access figures to the so-called PIN reset and activation service for the online ID card, which is operated by Bundesdruckerei on behalf of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs: In 2022, around 260,000 ID cards received a new PIN or were activated for online use.
