- Over half of companies fear loss of trust due to lack of protection against AI-based attacks
- ‘Guidelines for Secure Development and Deployment of AI Systems’ provide specific recommendations on how companies can use AI responsibly and securely
- ‘Principles of ethical use of AI systems in cybersecurity’ describe ethical principles for the use of AI in the field of cybersecurity
At the European conference Kaspersky Horizons, which will take place in Madrid from 30 June to 2 July 2025, Kaspersky calls for the responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence (AI). Although AI has great potential for increasing efficiency and opening up new opportunities for businesses and society, it is also increasingly being misused by cybercriminals for malicious purposes. With its ‘Guidelines for Secure Development and Deployment of AI Systems’ [1], Kaspersky provides specific recommendations on how companies can use AI responsibly and securely. In addition, the paper ‘Principles of ethical use of AI systems in cybersecurity’ [2] formulates ethical principles for the use of AI in cybersecurity.
Artificial intelligence is developing rapidly. Even less technically savvy cybercriminals are now using AI to expand their attack methods. According to the latest Kaspersky survey [3], 58 per cent of companies fear the loss of confidential data and 52 per cent fear negative effects on trust and finances if they do not improve their protective measures against AI-based attacks. At the same time, many companies lack external knowledge about new threats: 41 per cent say they do not receive sufficient information from external experts. Kaspersky is therefore advocating clear guidelines for the ethical development and use of AI to prevent manipulation and abuse. Back in 2024, the company signed the European Commission’s AI Pact – an initiative to prepare for the entry into force of the EU’s AI Act [4], the world’s first comprehensive legal framework for artificial intelligence. In December 2024, Kaspersky also presented its AI guidelines at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) [5] in Riyadh; key principles include: Transparency, security, human control and data protection. ‘Ethical AI is the foundation for trust, regulatory compliance and sustainable business success. It enables us to minimise the risk of data breaches and AI-based threats while meeting regulatory requirements such as the EU AI Act,’ explains Jochen Michels, Director of Public Affairs Europe at Kaspersky. ‘Our guidelines for the secure development and use of AI, as well as our principles for the ethical use of AI in cybersecurity, help companies to leverage the benefits of the technology responsibly and securely – without losing sight of the growing risks.’
Responsible use of AI protects society and businesses
‘AI is increasingly being used to strengthen cybersecurity – from threat detection to prediction. But who decides how far such tools can go?’ asks Liliana Acosta, founder and CEO of Thinker Soul. ‘When security breaches occur, individuals or particularly vulnerable groups are often the most affected. We therefore need systems that are not only effective, but also fair and ethical.’
“In recent months, I have observed how cybercriminals have been using AI in a targeted manner. They know exactly how much this technology is changing the rules of the game and are already using it successfully to improve their attacks. It is therefore crucial that companies also integrate AI into their defence strategies,‘ adds Clément Domingo, Cybersecurity Evangelist. ’It is important to understand the mindset of attackers – sometimes by putting yourself in their shoes. Used correctly, AI can be a powerful tool for protecting data, infrastructure, privacy and businesses as a whole.”
Transparency, security, control and data protection as basic principles To help companies use AI securely, Kaspersky has published two fundamental documents:
