Legal questions about video security? BHE practical guide provides answers in German language.

January 30, 2023

Video security systems are an essential part of a comprehensive security concept and offer numerous application possibilities. Among other things, they are used for alarm or access verification as well as for documenting incidents. Through this preservation of evidence, they support the analysis and clarification of criminal offences, whereby they also have a strong preventive effect.

Despite the numerous possible applications and advantages, video security is controversially discussed. This is because data protectionists in particular view the automatic collection, processing and use of personal data critically.

From a legal point of view, there is no comprehensive legal regulation on the use of video security. Rather, it is a matter of deriving the relevant stipulations from relevant legal sources and taking them into account.
As an operator of a video security system, maintaining an overview of the current legal situation is a real challenge.

The 5th edition of the BHE practical guidebook “Video Security” offers clear assistance. In the popular book, the most important legal bases for the use of video security systems are discussed in detail and comprehensively prepared. The focus is on the regulations of the current EU General Data Protection Regulation (DS-GVO) and the new version of the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG).
The guidebook covers topics such as weighing up interests, storage and deletion, signposting and handling in the work environment. It also contains concrete examples of inadmissible video security as well as helpful checklists for planning and setting up video security systems in compliance with data protection laws.

In addition to the legal aspects, the guidebook is also an ideal reference work for the various technical video components. Furthermore, it describes the interfaces to other security systems and provides information on relevant standards and guidelines. The topics of cyber security and cloud services are also examined in depth and the advantages of video connection to control centres are shown.

The BHE Practical Guide to Video Security is available at a price of € 17.80 (plus VAT and shipping). Graduated prices are available for larger order quantities. Orders can be placed by e-mail (info@bhe.de) or by fax (06386 9214-99).
