Metco and Smiths Detection open new high-tech plant in Saudi Arabia

January 6, 2026

Metco will join forces with Smiths Detection to build a new, state-of-the-art assembly and production facility in Saudi Arabia. The plant is scheduled to commence operations in the first quarter of 2026. The site will serve as a centre for the assembly, commissioning and manufacturing of advanced security and control solutions, including Smiths Detection’s market-leading X-ray screening systems.

In addition to its production function, the new facility will feature a showroom where customers can experience the full portfolio of screening solutions from Metco and Smiths Detection. The concept is complemented by a comprehensive training centre that will provide hands-on training and professional development programmes for security personnel and system operators.

The project specifically supports the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, particularly in the areas of technological development, local skills development and workforce training. The facility is expected to create a significant number of jobs for Saudi nationals and give them access to high-quality expertise in the high-tech security sector. By collaborating with leading technology partners, Metco ensures that the highest standards of quality, safety and innovation are maintained.

‘We are very excited to significantly expand our capabilities with this new facility,’ said Osama Shasha, CEO of Metco. ‘It enables us to offer our customers comprehensive support – from assembly, commissioning and manufacturing to training and live demonstrations – all under one roof. At the same time, we are making an important contribution to the Kingdom’s vision for innovation, local industrial development and skills training.’

Smiths Detection also emphasises the strategic importance of the partnership. ‘We are proud to be working with Metco in Saudi Arabia,’ says Matt Clark, VP Commercial at Smiths Detection. ‘Our shared goal is to provide state-of-the-art security screening solutions in the Kingdom and to train security operators to ensure the best possible security and passenger experience, especially at airports.’
