Mobile phone usage at Oktoberfest remains at record levels

September 26, 2025

  • Over ten percent more data traffic than in the same period last year
  • Virtually no dropped calls
  • French visitors jump to third place in guest rankings

The weather during the first week of Oktoberfest was cold and rainy. That didn’t hurt cell phone usage. Compared to the same period last year, data traffic on Telekom’s mobile network increased by over ten percent. And that’s despite fewer users being logged in than in 2024. The good news is that there were practically no dropped calls. The number of so-called “call drops” is just 0.25%. Fun fact: In the first week, the French knocked the Italians out of third place in the “guest ranking.” Americans and Austrians remain in first and second place. But the Italians are sure to catch up again. Traditionally, the second Oktoberfest weekend belongs to guests from bella Italia. As on the weekend, Instagram remains by far the most widely used social media app.
