New PRAESENSA End-of-Branch device enables supervised multi-branch loudspeaker lines
For retrofit and replacement projects compliant with EN 54-16
Bosch PRAESENSA, the IP-based public address and voice alarm system (PAVA) is growing: the new PRA-EOB end-of-branch device has been developed to support supervised multi-branch loudspeaker lines which is a requirement for emergency sound systems. Fully compliant with EN 54-16, it targets installations where speaker lines are configured in tree or star topologies as often seen in expansion or retrofit projects.
The PRA-EOB end-of-branch device is connected at the end of a loudspeaker line, after the last loudspeaker of a series of looped-through loudspeakers.
Beyond supervising branches, it can also be used to monitor individual loudspeakers. In approximately 15 percent of typical PAVA installations, multi-branch loudspeaker line configurations are implemented.
Smarter installations with more flexibility and lower costs
The PRA-EOB end-of-branch device allows for individual supervision of each loudspeaker line branch, contributing to system integrity and supporting fault detection across more complex cable topologies. This approach is particularly relevant in applications where existing infrastructure does not allow for straightforward cabling routes or where cable lengths must be optimized.
By enabling multiple supervised branches on the same speaker line, the device provides installation flexibility that can contribute to reduced total cable lengths and shorter installation times. This can be a consideration in projects where efficiency in cable routing is a priority.
The end-of-branch devices integrate into the PRAESENSA system supervision. In addition, the Open Interface API for PRAESENSA will provide full support for integrating and monitoring the end-of-branch.
Addressable smart pilot tone handshake technology
Unlike solutions that rely on impedance measurement, the PRAESENSA end-of-branch utilizes a low energy addressable smart pilot tone handshake technology using the existing speaker cable. This approach offers several advantages: each device on a branched line can be individually addressed and monitored, without the need to set signal thresholds. This simplifies the installation process and eliminates calibration steps.
The system remains stable across varying ambient temperatures and operates above 25 kHz, making the pilot tone inaudible to human hearing, an important consideration in sensitive environments such as hospitals, hotels, or office spaces.
Availibility
The PRA-EOB end-of-branch device is available and requires the latest PRAESENSA firmware to be installed on existing amplifiers to ensure compatibility and full functionality.
