Investment in advanced, safety-critical communications to improve public safety in sub-Saharan Africa
The Senegalese government’s Ministry of the Interior has awarded Motorola Solutions a contract to build a nationwide digital radio network based on the ASTRO P25 radio standard for secure, high-availability communications to modernise unified communications for security agencies.
The nationwide digital radio network will optimise communication between the Senegalese police, fire brigade and emergency services and thus decisively shorten response times, especially in emergencies.
“Our investment in this state-of-the-art communications network will help improve the safety of our citizens,” said Antoine Felix Abdoulayer Diome, Minister of the Interior in Senegal, adding, “By upgrading the communications infrastructure, emergency services across the country can be confident that they have highly available and secure communications at the moments when it matters.”
The ASTRO P25 radio system will cover more than 100 sites in Senegal. Motorola Solutions will also provide round-the-clock technical support and maintenance.
“The ASTRO P25 network will enable Senegal’s emergency services to work more closely together and ensure that each agency has better visibility of wider operations to improve public safety,” said Patrick Fitting, Motorola Solutions’ Middle East, Africa and Central Asia sales manager. “The new network will also bring significant economic benefits to the country through extensive subcontracting and employment opportunities for Senegalese companies to support the installation and ongoing maintenance of the system.”
