Infineon and Thistle Technologies Combine OPTIGA™ Trust M with Secure-Edge-AI Platform

Securing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) at the edge is becoming increasingly critical. With the integration of Infineon’s OPTIGA™ Trust M security controller into the Thistle Security Platform, the two companies are setting a new benchmark for protecting embedded AI models and data.

Hardware-Based Security for Edge AI

Edge devices that execute AI models locally are particularly vulnerable to intellectual property (IP) theft and data tampering. Infineon addresses this challenge with OPTIGA Trust M, a tamper-resistant hardware Root of Trust that securely stores cryptographic keys and enables efficient cryptographic operations.

The Thistle Security Platform builds on this foundation, offering a cloud-managed software solution that can be deployed on both Linux-based devices and microcontrollers. Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) benefit from a fast, scalable, and low-maintenance security framework, supporting secure boot, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and broad compatibility with microprocessors, SoCs, and controllers.

Key Features of the Secure-Edge-AI Solution

The joint solution enhances Thistle’s platform with AI-specific security mechanisms, addressing three critical protection goals:

  1. Hardware-Protected Model Encryption
Each device is equipped with a unique AES-256 key stored exclusively within OPTIGA Trust M. The key is used only for encryption and decryption inside the security controller, ensuring that AI models remain protected even if a device is lost, retired, or dismantled.
  2. Secured Model Provenance
OTA updates are cryptographically signed and delivered tamper-proof, allowing every deployed model instance to be traced and verified.
  3. Signed Data and Data Provenance
Data generated or collected by devices can be signed on-device and tagged with provenance metadata. This ensures that downstream training or fine-tuning systems can verify both the data source and the AI model version active at the time of data generation.

Industry Voices

“With OPTIGA Trust M and the Thistle Security Platform, we deliver a practical, scalable security solution for Edge AI that OEMs can implement without lengthy development cycles,” said Animesh Ranjan, Head of Partnerships & Ecosystem at Infineon.

Window Snyder, CEO of Thistle Technologies, emphasized: “Our mission is to make robust security accessible. By combining proven cryptography with seamless integration, we enable manufacturers to securely verify, encrypt, and update AI models at scale.”

Availability and Outlook

The new Secure-Edge-AI solution is now available as part of the Thistle Security Platform. Developers of embedded devices can request a demonstration directly from Thistle Technologies.

Visitors to “The Things Conference” in Amsterdam (September 23–24, 2025) can see the solution in action at Thistle’s booth B6.
