September 13, 2022

WSO2, the leading provider of digital transformation technologies, announced that it has been named an overall leader and a product leader in KuppingerCole Analysts’ 2022 CIAM Platforms Leadership Compass Report, released on September 27, 2022. The report is based on KuppingerCole’s assessment of 23 leading vendors in the consumer identity and access management (CIAM) market.

“At a time when companies are competing on their ability to create seamless digital interactions with their customers, there is no room for compromise between robust security and a welcoming user experience,” said WSO2 Vice President and Head of Identity and Access Management Geethika Cooray. “We are honoured to be recognised as both an overall and product leader in KuppingerCole’s 2022 CIAM Platforms Leadership Compass report. We see this as validation of our investment in delivering the CIAM solutions businesses need to create rich, trusted digital experiences that drive customer adoption, loyalty and growth.”

Assessment of WSO2’s CIAM capabilities.
The CIAM Platforms Leadership Compass 2022 report evaluated WSO2’s CIAM suite, including WSO2 Identity Server software and Asgardeo Identity as a Service (IDaaS). In the report, WSO2 received the highest rating of “strongly positive” in three out of five categories: security, interoperability and deployment. In addition, WSO2 received a “positive” rating in the categories of functionality and ease of use. WSO2’s product leadership and strong rankings in the innovation and market categories led to its overall ranking as a leader in the report.

WSO2’s key strengths cited in the KuppingerCole report include:

  • Flow chart and native language admin and developer interfaces.
  • Highly configurable risk engine
  • Connectors for IAM/IDaaS and many software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications
  • Broad support for API types and IAM communication standards
  • Focus on API documentation, visibility and security, facilitating development of client applications
  • Good functionality for managing consent management features
  • Highly extensible and customisable

John Tolbert, principal analyst at KuppingerCole, notes in the report, “The key strengths of WSO2 solutions are its open source and support model, adherence to industry standards and focus on API. These features enable WSO2 to fulfil the CIAM role and enable its customers to extend the solution as needed to meet their requirements. WSO2 reports a strong increase in the use of its product for B2B customer identity applications. Any organisation that has developed its own business applications and requires a highly extensible CIAM solution should consider WSO2.”
