FLIR K-Series: Mission control from emergency call to debriefing

September 29, 2025

  • The next generation of FLIR K-Series thermal imaging cameras helps firefighters control every step of a mission, from emergency call to debriefing
  • The FLIR K75 and K85 thermal imaging cameras for firefighting offer exactly the kind of reliability required in the field – without system delays and with immediate colour imaging.

FLIR, a Teledyne Technologies company, today unveiled the next generation of its K-Series thermal imaging cameras, which provide best-in-class thermal imaging before, during and after firefighting. The new dynamic full temperature range without switching and higher resolutions support faster and better decision-making, while the integrated Wi-Fi connection enables seamless configuration, live streaming, training, media downloads and easy camera management.

With the K75 and K85, users are entering a new era in professional firefighting. The high resolution of up to 640 × 480 pixels provides best-in-class thermal imaging quality for precise target detection and improved situational awareness from the initial alarm to clean-up and debriefing. In addition, the newly introduced single-range interface ensures uninterrupted focus with simplified live image display and minimal menu interactions, preventing important information from being overlooked.

The three-button K75 (320 × 240) model replaces both the previous one-button K33 model and the three-button K45 (240 × 180) model, while the three-button K85 (640 × 480) replaces the single-button K53 and the three-button K55 (320 × 240).

Reliable performance

The new cameras are based on the proven quality and performance of the K series. Thanks to the new features, users benefit from improved situational and tactical awareness, supported by ergonomic, intuitive operation. The new camera generation offers comprehensive Wi-Fi connectivity and retains the proven and popular pistol grip design.

‘With their rugged IP67-compliant construction, two-metre drop resistance and excellent performance at high temperatures, the K75 and K85 are designed for frontline firefighting operations,’ said Peter Dekkers, Director of Business Development at FLIR. ‘Our engineers have optimised the next generation of these cameras for reliable thermal imaging visibility in low-light, no-light and smoke-filled environments, benefiting not only fire services but also occupational safety, maritime safety and defence. Users will find that the quality meets the highest professional standards, backed by our decade-proven K-Series design.’

End-to-end capabilities

With their new application-oriented modes, the FLIR K75 and K85 address every phase of firefighting operations, improving crew readiness through pre-deployment planning and post-deployment insights.

  • Preparation: The FLIR Responder app features a new wireless Wi-Fi configuration and streaming capability to ensure firefighters are well prepared for the upcoming operation.
  • Arrival at the scene: The new search mode is a valuable tactical addition that helps responders locate fires and identify lower temperatures during situation assessment. With colour coding from 80 to 200°C, improved contrast supports faster identification of fire sources.
  • Fire Attack mode: The new single range allows seamless operation from -20 to 650°C without switching. With no low and high temperature modes, users no longer have to switch between the two modes, avoiding annoying image freezes due to temperature range changes and the risk of missing important information.
  • A new, revised detection mode highlights significantly hotter areas with a red colour gradient. With the ability to track/monitor hot and cold spots over time, this mode is useful for post-fire analysis. And for cleaning, the K75 and K85 models have fewer sharp edges where dust and soot can accumulate.
  • Back at the station: Users of the FLIR Responder app can take advantage of new wireless media downloads and training.

Additional firefighting modes include: the basic mode with a colour temperature of 150 to 650°C for smoke operations, initial firefighting and fire suppression; a high heat mode with a colour rendering of 250 to 650°C for offensive firefighting operations that require later colour rendering; and a white hot colour mode with visibility in heat convection for training, high heat environments and colour blind users.

Both the K75 and K85 offer a sensitivity (NETD) of <60 mK at 30°C across the entire range, supported by a field of view of 53° × 40° and an image frequency of 30 Hz. The cameras come complete with two batteries, charger, power supply, USB cable, carabiner strap and retractable mounting bracket. A vehicle charger and hard case are available as optional extras.
