The KNVB sports centre in Zeist, centrally located in the Netherlands, has long been the heart of Dutch football. As the training and preparation centre for all Dutch national teams, the KNVB Campus combines sporting excellence with modern management – and thus places high demands on its infrastructure.
Challenge
Until recently, the campus used an access control system that no longer met current requirements. It was based on Windows XP, was outdated and no longer complied with security and management standards.
Peter de Klein, Technical Director of the KNVB, describes the situation:
“We had concrete plans to expand the KNVB Campus – with a new training centre, a sports medicine centre and a team hotel. The start of the renovation project gave us the ideal opportunity to replace the old access control system.”
This was a crucial moment: in addition to expanding the infrastructure, there was an opportunity to fundamentally modernise access control. This required a solution that was technically robust, easy to use and could be seamlessly integrated into existing systems.
Solution
This solution was found at Kuijpers, a technical service provider specialising in the design, construction and maintenance of technical installations.
Project manager Wilco Wanzing explains:
‘We were looking for a system that was easy to install and offered intuitive user guidance. Paxton’s Net2 system impressed us on both counts and was therefore the right choice to replace the outdated system.’
Integration with Active Directory was particularly relevant: users are created here and automatically synchronised with Net2. This enables centralised and efficient management – a significant advantage for the operation of the campus. Wanzing adds:
‘The Net2 software is clearly structured, easy to navigate and offers comprehensive menus. This makes day-to-day work much easier.’
‘The KNVB Campus needed an easy-to-install access control system. Paxton offered the most user-friendly software to replace the old system. Together with Paxton, Kuijpers was able to present a solution that met the system requirements within a day.’

Implementation
The new access control system was implemented throughout the campus – from the administration building to the training centre and the Rinus Michels stand to the main stand, the team hotel and the sports medicine centre. P50 readers were installed in all buildings, supplemented by 20 Paxton PaxLocks in the team hotel.
Two stainless steel entry panels and a Nedap ANPR reader were used for access to the campus car park. This combination ensures smooth access, increases security and optimises processes on the site.
Result
For Peter de Klein, one thing is certain: the new solution brings tangible benefits. He particularly emphasises its ease of use and the ability to control different systems centrally:
‘Net2 offers a user-friendly platform that allows the integration of other solutions while still ensuring centralised management.’
The intuitive operation and clear structure of the software enable the campus team to respond quickly to situations and evaluate information efficiently – a decisive advantage for daily operations.
