Data protection-compliant biometrics

Passwordless authentication now available directly via Microsoft Entra Marketplace

Anonybit and Fingerprint Cards (FPC) introduce AAL2-compliant biometric login without a password or PIN – quick to implement, secure and data protection-compliant

Passwords are one of the biggest vulnerabilities in IT security. Over 80% of all data breaches are caused by compromised access data – a problem that not only impacts user-friendliness but also places a massive strain on IT budgets.

Now there is a new alternative: the companies Anonybit and Fingerprint Cards (FPC) have integrated a privacy-preserving, passwordless biometric platform directly into the Microsoft Entra Marketplace. This allows companies to implement biometric login and multi-factor authentication in just a few minutes – without password fallbacks or central data storage.

Password-free, but not risk-free? – Not with privacy-compliant biometrics

While FIDO-based or device-bound solutions such as Face ID or Windows Hello are becoming increasingly widespread, they are often limited to a single device. For companies with multiple systems or shared workstations, consistent use has been virtually impossible until now.

This is exactly where the joint solution from Anonybit and FPC comes in:

It enables AAL2-compliant, cross-platform authentication in which biometric data is not stored centrally, but broken down into encrypted fragments and distributed across the cloud.

This architecture prevents attackers from ever accessing a complete biometric template – and helps companies comply with strict data protection regulations such as the GDPR or NIST 800-63.

“Too many individual solutions increase complexity, while the risk of account takeovers remains.

Our partnership with Anonybit combines security, data protection and user-friendliness – bringing companies worldwide one step closer to truly trustworthy, passwordless identity.”

Adam Philpott, CEO, Fingerprint Cards (FPC)

From theory to practice: easy integration into Microsoft Entra

Through the Microsoft Entra Marketplace, part of Microsoft’s identity and access management suite, companies can deploy the solution without complex infrastructure changes.

According to Anonybit, the rollout takes less than ten minutes and integrates seamlessly into existing workflows – from Windows logins and MFA to passwordless login to SaaS applications.

The technology supports a variety of scenarios:

  • Biometric Windows login
  • Multi-factor authentication without OTPs
  • Passkey management and recovery
  • Authentication at shared workstations
  • Helpdesk and visitor identification
  • Physical access protection

The system thus covers both IT and physical identity requirements – an important step towards integrated zero-trust concepts.

Security without passwords – and without compromises

‘Removing passwords and shared secrets is the crucial step to stopping account takeovers, reducing IT costs and improving the user experience,’ emphasises Frances Zelazny, co-founder and CEO of Anonybit.

‘With its inclusion in the Microsoft Entra Marketplace, this technology is now ready for use by any company in just a few minutes – secure, scalable and privacy-compliant.’

Analysts also confirm the trend: according to the Gartner Digital Identity Hype Cycle 2025, privacy-preserving biometric methods have now reached the stage of broad enterprise adoption. The key success factor: privacy by design instead of centralised data storage.

The path to trustworthy digital identity

With their integration into Microsoft Entra, Anonybit and FPC are laying the technical foundation for a new era of enterprise authentication:

  • Passwordless – no fallbacks or insecure recovery mechanisms
  • Data protection compliant – no central storage of biometric templates
  • Quick to implement – fully integrated into existing IAM workflows

For companies looking to modernise their identity and access strategies, this solution offers a practical introduction to the zero trust approach – with maximum security and compliance.
