When visibility is no longer sufficient, thermal imaging comes into play – and FLIR provides the right technology for the job. With the new Scout Pro series, the company is introducing two powerful thermal imaging monoculars designed specifically for professional users. The Scout Pro II and Scout Pro III models are designed for police, rescue teams, border guards and security services who work in changing conditions and challenging environments – day and night.
The Scout Pro devices set new standards in detection performance, robustness and intuitive usability. Whether for searching for people, monitoring large areas or quickly assessing situations in confusing terrain, they deliver exactly what matters in the field: fast orientation, reliable results and robust technology that thinks for itself.
Quick to deploy, clear image – for situations where seconds count
Smooth processes are particularly important in safety-critical operations. Overly complex menu navigation or fiddly buttons can be decisive here – and in the worst case, to your disadvantage. That is why great importance was attached to intuitive, application-oriented operation when developing the Scout Pro series. The device is controlled via clearly structured buttons with defined functions that are easy to operate even when wearing gloves. A flat menu structure ensures that the most important functions – such as zoom, colour modes and brightness – can be accessed with just a few simple steps.
A special feature is the toggle function, which allows settings to be adjusted particularly quickly – ideal for changing environments or dynamic situations, such as when switching between urban and open areas.
Robust construction – for any terrain, any weather, any application
The devices in the Scout Pro series are made for tough everyday outdoor use. A housing made of durable die-cast metal, complemented by rubberised buttons and grip areas, ensures high impact resistance and a secure hold – even in rain, cold or night-time use.
With protection class IP67, the devices are both dustproof and temporarily waterproof – a fall into a puddle or heavy rain will not damage the monocular. It can even survive falls from heights of up to two metres without any loss of function. The robust design is complemented by a battery life of up to six hours of continuous operation, a USB-C interface for fast charging cycles and the option of connecting power banks directly – which is particularly important for longer operations away from stationary infrastructure.
Thermal imaging technology with sensitivity: locate people, recognise situations
The greatest strength of the Scout Pro II and III lies in their ability to deliver clear, high-contrast images even in the most difficult lighting or weather conditions. FLIR’s proprietary Digital Detail Enhancement (DDE) technology ensures that even the slightest temperature differences are visible in the image. Heat sources – such as people, animals or running machines – are precisely identified, even in heavily covered or structured environments.
Customisable colour palettes (four to choose from) offer further flexibility: depending on the time of day, terrain type or ambient light, the display can be selected to highlight important details. This is a decisive advantage, especially at dusk, on water or in built-up areas.
Flexible optics for different application profiles
The Scout Pro series is available in three versions, each with different focal lengths and fields of view to suit specific requirements in the field:
- The Scout Pro model (19 mm focal length) offers a wide field of view of 32° and is ideal for quick situational overviews at short to medium distances, such as in urban areas or on patrol.
- The Scout Pro II (35 mm) narrows the field of view to 18°, but offers a significantly increased range of up to 1,000 metres – ideal for search and reconnaissance missions in wooded areas or open terrain.
- The Scout Pro III (50 mm focal length) is designed with a field of view of 12° for long-range observation up to 1,500 metres. This makes this model ideal for border control, maritime surveillance or large-area terrain reconnaissance.
All devices use the same high-resolution thermal sensor with 640 × 480 pixels, which ensures a crystal-clear image at all distances.
Network your operations – with the FLIR Scout Pro app
With integrated Wi-Fi functionality, Scout Pro II and III can be connected to the free FLIR Scout Pro app. This means that the devices can not only stream live to smartphones or tablets, but can also be remotely configured and updated – for example, via software updates or user-defined settings.
This real-time collaboration option is particularly valuable when teams are working remotely or when control centres need to be directly involved in operations. The app turns the thermal imaging device into a networked system – without the need for complicated infrastructure.
Technology that thinks for itself – overview of features and details
The Scout Pro II and III come standard with a tactical carrying case, ergonomically shaped eyepiece inserts, a USB-C charging cable and a quick start guide. A charging station is available as an option, allowing multiple devices to be charged simultaneously – ideal for larger organisations or units.
The devices have a battery life of up to six hours in continuous operation and are quickly ready for use again via USB-C. In addition, standard power banks can be used, which significantly increases independence from mains power.
Thanks to their IP67 certification, the devices are completely protected against dust and can even withstand temporary immersion without losing any of their functionality. They are also drop-proof from heights of up to two metres. All models feature a robust die-cast metal housing with non-slip rubber coating.
The integrated 640 × 480 pixel thermal imaging camera offers excellent resolution. Four selectable colour modes allow the display to be flexibly adapted to the application. The differences between the models lie in the focal length and range, allowing you to choose between a wide-angle overview and precise long-range observation.
Warranty: FLIR offers a standard two-year warranty, which can be extended to up to five years by registering online.
