With version 3.0 of Active Guard, i-PRO (formerly Panasonic Security) presents a further development of its AI-supported search software. At its heart is a free text search based on generative AI, which allows security teams to navigate through huge amounts of video data using everyday language.
Whereas previously predefined attributes such as clothing or vehicle type were filtered, users can now formulate queries such as ‘person who fell down’ or ‘electric scooter’ – even if these categories are not stored in the attribute database. This is made possible by combining 98 predefined characteristics with a generative AI engine.
‘Quick access to the right information makes all the difference in security-critical environments,’ says Gerard Figols, COO of i-PRO. ‘With free-text search, you can create search filters that are as intuitive as spoken language.’
Local processing instead of cloud
Active Guard 3.0 works entirely on site – without an internet connection. This eliminates the latency and data protection risks often associated with cloud processing. ‘Security-critical locations in particular deliberately restrict internet access. That’s why we’ve integrated GenAI directly into the Active Guard server,’ explains Philippe Henaine, Strategic Partners Manager at i-PRO.
Compatibility and new features
The new version relies on edge processing by AI-enabled i-PRO cameras, combined with a server-side GenAI engine. Existing installations can continue to be used – there is no need to replace cameras. The AI Processing Relay application even allows devices without their own AI functionality, including those from third-party manufacturers, to be integrated.
Another new feature in Active Guard 3.0 is the ‘Person Image Similarity Search’ function: it uses re-identification technology to find similar appearances in video streams, even when clothing or lighting conditions vary.
With Active Guard, i-PRO is consistently developing its software towards an open, AI-supported security platform. The target audience is operators of complex infrastructures such as airports, transport hubs, public facilities or smart city environments. Crucially, the system supports existing VMS integrations – such as Genetec, Milestone or VideoInsight – and enhances the existing infrastructure without replacing it.
