Riyadh Airport launches largest modernisation project at King Khalid International Airport in over 40 years

Riyadh Airports Company has announced its largest modernisation project in over 40 years for King Khalid International Airport (KKIA). The start of the extensive redesign and expansion work is planned for the first quarter of 2026, as highlighted by several media reports this week. The multi-stage project is intended to comprehensively renew the passenger and operational experience and includes the complete redesign of the terminals, operational efficiency improvements, the modernisation of the airport infrastructure and a significant increase in passenger capacity. In addition, check-in and waiting times are to be reduced and key areas such as IT systems, baggage handling, immigration, check-in and security checks are to be modernised. Retail areas, seating areas, parking zones and airside and landside processes will also be upgraded. The project is one of the most significant airport developments in the region and offers far-reaching opportunities for technology and solution providers across the entire airport ecosystem.
