With the new Biometric Services of the BIOMANAGER PLATFORM [(BIOMETRIS AS A SERVICE (BAAS)], TBS is embarking on a radically open path from 13 May 2025: Biometric processes such as facial recognition, fingerprint and iris scanning can now be integrated into any IT environment via an intuitive REST API – from web and mobile applications to edge devices. The platform-agnostic solution scales automatically to hundreds of thousands of users with latency times of less than 200 ms and ensures FIPS-compliant template management and GDPR-compliant data governance. Whether identity verification in schools, access control in industry or password-free patient login in healthcare – the decentralised self-enrolment functions and real-time matcher engine offer maximum flexibility with minimal administration. With SDK and starter kit releases in Q3 2025, integration into common frameworks will be further simplified, opening up biometrics to virtually every industry.
On 13 May 2025, TBS ushered in a new era with the launch of its new Biometric Services in the BIOMANAGER PLATFORM, enabling biometric identification to be integrated flexibly, openly and without restrictions into any IT environment. Instead of forcing users to rely on proprietary devices, all core biometric functions are available via an intuitive, REST-based interface: from secure onboarding and advanced liveness detection to 1:1 and 1:many comparisons and comprehensive audit and process logging. This makes it easy to integrate facial recognition, fingerprint or iris scans into web applications, mobile apps, IoT devices or edge gateways – exactly where they are needed.
The platform architecture is deliberately designed to be platform-agnostic: whether on x86 servers in data centres, ARM-based edge hardware or in cloud instances, the biometric services scale automatically and are multi-tenant capable. Clustering mechanisms allow the management of hundreds of thousands of users with extremely low latency times of less than 200 ms per match. At the same time, encrypted template management in accordance with FIPS standards and GDPR-compliant data governance ensure strict security and data protection. Role-based access controls and a detailed audit trail ensure complete traceability of all processes.
In schools and universities, Biometric Services prevent identity fraud in exams through automated attendance tracking via facial recognition. In industry, they secure access to machine controls and production data by only granting access to authorised employees via fingerprint or iris scan. Medical facilities benefit from immediate, password-free access to patient records, while personalised customer experiences are created in retail: loyalty programmes and tailor-made offers are only activated after biometric confirmation. Even in logistics and mobile applications – for example, to register drivers on vehicles via smartphone camera – the full benefits of the decentralised, lightweight solution are evident.
A particularly user-friendly feature is mobile self-enrolment: new faces can be captured locally and intuitively without users having to go to a central registration point or install an additional app. This process reduces waiting times, minimises administrative effort and allows users to log in flexibly from anywhere and with any internet-enabled device. For operators, this not only reduces the time required, but also significantly lowers the cost of rolling out biometric systems.
TBS Biometric Services have been developed from the ground up to integrate seamlessly into complex IT infrastructures while remaining lean enough to perform well in resource-constrained edge environments. Thanks to the real-time-capable matcher engine and load distribution mechanisms, high availability is ensured even if individual components fail. This provides companies with a future-proof basis for digitising their identification and access processes without having to invest in expensive hardware or specialised training.
With the upcoming release of SDKs and starter kits in the third quarter of 2025, TBS will further strengthen the developer community and facilitate integration into popular programming languages and frameworks. This will enable companies to deploy, test and scale even faster. Biometric Services makes biometrics truly limitless – an open, scalable and secure solution that adds value in virtually any industry and application.
