Sparking Ideas for Greater Safety: 19th Essen Explosion Protection Days

August 13, 2025

The 19th Essen Explosion Protection Days, taking place on September 16–17, 2025, will once again feature a wide range of practically relevant presentations by universities, manufacturers, as well as representatives from a professional association and an energy company.

High-profile experts as speakers, renowned cooperation partners, a highly impressive accompanying exhibition, and excellent participant feedback make the Essen Explosion Protection Days a special event in many respects. Above all, the responsible team at Germany’s oldest technical training institute emphasizes that the primary goal of the event is to contribute to increased safety in industrial operations.

Industry Gathering with Strong Practical Relevance

Participants can expect a comprehensive program of practice-oriented presentations, addressing current challenges and solutions in explosion protection. The event provides numerous opportunities to network and exchange ideas at the Essen HDT headquarters, including a special “Come Together” dinner on the first day in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.

“A key focus of the 19th Essen Explosion Protection Days remains on practical experience in implementing explosion protection measures,” explains Dipl.-Ing. Kai Brommann, Head of HDT’s Specialist Department. “In addition to news from applied research and development, this year’s program will cover topics such as safe handling of explosives in laboratories, explosion risks of nanodust, simulation of explosion processes, and the development of a dummy for evaluating protective or threat scenarios,” Brommann summarizes.

Plenty of Room for Exchange and Discussion

As in previous years, a hands-on demonstration of explosion protection practices will illustrate the hazards encountered in daily work. After each presentation, attendees have the opportunity to discuss and share experiences. Each day concludes with a panel discussion highlighting key topics.

Given that preventive explosion protection is not only technically demanding but also legally and insurance-wise complex, the program also includes insights from an experienced attorney, who will clarify rights and obligations for participants.
