KEENFINITY Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) is setting the course for future growth: the plant in Ovar, Portugal, is being expanded in size, skills and scope to pursue new market opportunities. EMS aims to double the plant’s sales volume in the next five years and to create highly skilled jobs, increasing the workforce beyond the current 1,100 employees.
Last Friday marked a strategic milestone with the inauguration of a building extension at the Ovar plant. The event also featured the closing ceremony of an Innovation Program conducted in collaboration with Porto University and INL, the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory. The ceremony was attended by Portugal’s Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, Ovar’s Mayor, Domingos Silva, and Secretary of State for the Economy, João Rui Ferreira, underscoring the plant’s significance for the region’s R&D ecosystem and economic development.
“This new infrastructure in Ovar is a prerequisite for growing our Research & Development activities and operations through 2030,” said António Pereira, Plant Manager of Keenfinity Ovar. “Collaboration between technology companies and regional universities supported by government-backed projects accelerates innovation and drives economic growth in the region.”
With a legacy spanning more than 50 years and Bosch manufacturing experience, Keenfinity’s Ovar plant provides end-to-end electronics manufacturing services. The new 3,800 m² production area – equivalent to 14 tennis courts – expands the plant’s footprint to accommodate additional Research & Development (R&D) and operations to address various industries.
“The expansion of the plant in Portugal demonstrates Keenfinity’s commitment to growth and value creation in electronics innovation and production,” said Peter Loeffler, CEO of Keenfinity Group. “We are strengthening electronic manufacturing capabilities in Europe and providing customers worldwide the agility they need to scale their production in fast-changing market environments.”
Advancing to Joint Development Manufacturing
As a cornerstone of its growth strategy, Keenfinity EMS, will strengthen its core capabilities in design, engineering, and software development. This evolution positions the company to advance from a world-class EMS provider to a trusted innovation partner, scaling into Joint Development Manufacturing (JDM).
“Congratulations to the team in Ovar. The plant is a key pillar of our global growth strategy, setting benchmarks in quality and design enablement,” said Ram Dornala, CEO of Electronics Manufacturing Services at Keenfinity Group. “The Ovar plant is set to become a Center of Excellence within our global production network, driving growth by expanding into highly regulated markets such as medical in the future.
As of today, Keenfinity EMS supports customers from small and medium-sized companies to global corporations across Security and Building Technologies, Mobility and Industrial sectors. From product design to complete box-building processes, Keenfinity sets industry benchmarks in quality, flexibility, and design enablement across its global network of production facilities in Europe, the Americas, and China.
