IQSIGHT and Milestone deepen integration of video analytics and security management

New plugin suite connects AI-powered video analytics directly to the VMS and significantly reduces integration effort

The convergence of video management, AI-powered analytics and operational security control continues to advance. With the new SmartSuite, Milestone Systems and IQSIGHT present an integrated plugin suite that embeds intelligent video analytics functions directly into the XProtect® video management platform. The aim of the solution is to simplify installation processes, accelerate security operations and integrate the use of analytical video metadata more closely into operational decision-making processes.

Available worldwide, SmartSuite bundles several previously separate plug-ins into a unified integration environment. According to the companies, this can reduce installation effort for system integrators by up to 70 per cent. At the same time, the solution extends the functionality of XProtect with additional analysis, configuration and hardware control features.

From video footage to an operational decision-making platform

The integration highlights a fundamental development in the security and video technology market: modern video management systems are increasingly evolving from pure recording platforms into data-driven security and situational awareness platforms.

The focus here is on the use of structured metadata from AI-supported video analytics. SmartSuite integrates IQSIGHT’s Intelligent Video Analytics directly into the XProtect user and management environment. This gives security managers access to additional analytical information such as colour-coded bounding boxes, object classifications, motion vectors or direction indicators for gunshot detection – directly within the VMS.

This shifts the focus from traditional video surveillance to context-based situational information and faster decision-making processes in security operations.

Deeper forensic analysis and faster response times

The integration is particularly relevant for applications with high demands on situational awareness and forensic analysis capabilities. SmartSuite supports both real-time visualisation and forensic search functions for IQSIGHT’s IVA Pro analytics.

These include analysis functions such as ‘Appearance Search’ or the detection of personal protective equipment (PPE). This enables security and operations managers to search specifically for personal characteristics, movement patterns or security-relevant events.

Another key focus is on support for IVA Pro Visual Gun Detection. The solution is designed to automatically detect individuals with a drawn firearm and trigger corresponding warning messages. The companies envisage deployment scenarios particularly in sensitive environments such as educational institutions, critical infrastructure or heavily frequented public areas.

This development also demonstrates the extent to which AI-based analysis functions are now being integrated into operational security processes. The aim is no longer solely the documentation of incidents, but their early detection and a faster operational response.

Simplified integration and more efficient commissioning

In addition to the analysis functions, SmartSuite specifically addresses typical challenges in the integration and commissioning process of complex video security environments.

The new plugin suite consolidates several previously separate extensions into a central integration platform. This is intended to reduce configuration effort, interface management and training requirements.

In addition, there are extra functions for panoramic distortion correction and hardware control – for example, for windscreen wipers or infrared lighting in compatible camera systems. Support for ‘Project Assistant’ imports is also particularly relevant for larger installations. This allows camera names, group structures, network settings and image parameters to be automatically transferred to XProtect.

This can significantly speed up commissioning, particularly in large-scale security infrastructures with numerous cameras and complex network structures.

Centralised camera configuration directly within the VMS

A key benefit of the SmartSuite lies in the greater centralisation of administrative processes. Integrators and administrators can configure compatible IQSIGHT cameras directly within the XProtect Management Client without having to switch between different management interfaces.

This approach follows a key trend in modern security architectures: the consolidation of distributed security functions into unified operating and management platforms. For operators, this means reduced complexity, faster adjustments and simplified operational processes.

In addition, SmartSuite introduces accelerated event subscription, making it easier to configure analysis-based alarms and notifications.

AI, metadata and open platforms as market drivers

The collaboration between Milestone and IQSIGHT also highlights the strategic importance of open platform architectures in the security market. Modern security solutions are increasingly emerging within ecosystems comprising VMS providers, analytics platforms, camera manufacturers and cloud technologies.
