We have revised the rankings for cities with more than 200,000 inhabitants: Munich is in first place, Nuremberg is in second place, followed by Augsburg in third place.
Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann: Bavaria’s major cities are the safest in Germany – Erlangen and Fürth once again at the top of the list – Munich remains in first place among cities with more than 200,000 inhabitants – Nuremberg and Augsburg close behind
The latest nationwide city comparison for 2024, based on police crime statistics, has determined the safest cities in Germany – and they are all located in Bavaria. Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann sums up the results: “Erlangen and Fürth are once again the leaders among cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. Munich has once again secured first place among the 40 cities with more than 200,000 inhabitants – Nuremberg ranks second, followed by Augsburg in third place. These top rankings are no coincidence, but the result of our consistent and sustainable security policy.”
Bavaria will thus continue to set the standard nationwide in terms of internal security in 2024, Herrmann continued: ‘With the lowest crime rate and the highest clearance rate, the Free State is once again the national leader.’ The goal remains not only to maintain the high level of security, but to continuously improve it.
According to the minister, a key factor in this success is the continuous expansion and modernisation of the Bavarian police force: “We rely on state-of-the-art equipment, innovative technology – and, above all, more personnel. Between 2008 and 2023, we have strengthened the Bavarian police force with a total of 8,000 additional positions. This is unique in Germany. With more than 45,700 positions for all employees, we have now reached a new high in the number of positions in the Bavarian police force.”
