Airport solutions 2025: Greater efficiency, security and cost savings through integrated video and radar technologies

August 22, 2025

Airports are faced with the challenge of balancing security, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Traditional surveillance methods such as fences and patrols are increasingly reaching their limits in the face of growing demands for security, process control and cost optimisation. At inter airport Europe 2025 (7–9 October in Munich), Dallmeier electronic and Navtech Radar will present new integrated systems that combine video and radar technologies to provide comprehensive security and process management.

Holistic situational awareness: video and radar working together

The combination of Dallmeier Panomera® multifocal sensor technology with high-frequency radar solutions from Navtech addresses a key problem in airport operations: seamless surveillance in all weather and lighting conditions. By merging video and radar data, large areas such as runways or perimeter zones can be monitored more efficiently and with a reduced false alarm rate.

Market overview:

  • Traditional CCTV systems reach their limits in large areas because multiple installations are required.
  • Radar systems alone provide motion data, but without visual verification.
  • Integrated systems such as the combination of Dallmeier/Navtech reduce the need for redundant infrastructure and facilitate coordination of operations.

Perimeter protection: From selective measures to integrated solutions

Protecting the airside area is a key security factor. With Panomera® Perimeter and AI-supported analysis, Dallmeier combines optical surveillance with radar data, providing security personnel with direct visual verification in real time. This results in a significantly lower false alarm rate compared to classic fence surveillance systems.

Runway monitoring: Reduced infrastructure, maximised visibility

The Panomera® S8 Runway combines two multifocal sensor cameras at a single installation point, providing a wide horizontal field of view across the entire runway. In addition, zoom functions deliver high-resolution detailed images in all image areas. Advantage: Fewer installation points mean lower infrastructure costs and improved process control for runway operations.

Remote Tower: The answer to budget and staffing constraints

Regional airports in particular are under pressure: limited budgets and a lack of personnel make operations difficult. Dallmeier addresses this with a remote tower concept developed in collaboration with TRIAC. Here, air traffic controllers can centrally monitor several airports. Video analysis features such as automated aircraft tracking, flight data display in the video stream and support for runway incursion mitigation increase operational safety.

Market comparison:

  • Traditional tower solutions require a high density of personnel per location.
  • Remote tower systems are increasingly becoming the standard in Scandinavia and the UK.
  • The integration of multifocal sensor technology takes the approach to a higher level of automation.

Passenger flow: video data as a control tool

In addition to airside processes, the passenger experience is also becoming increasingly important. Panomera® technology allows people flows to be analysed in real time: numbers, waiting times and crowds are recorded, providing valuable information for decision-making in check-in, security and border control. The goal: shorter waiting times, greater satisfaction and lower operating costs.

Market overview:

  • Many airports still rely on manual counting or simple camera tracking systems.
  • Dallmeier combines image data with metadata analysis to create scalable and networkable systems.
  • In the long term, passenger flow analytics will become a prerequisite for smart terminal control and capacity planning.

Technology as a lever for security and efficiency

The solutions presented show that security and efficiency are not mutually exclusive, but rather reinforce each other in integrated systems. Whether perimeter protection, runway surveillance, remote towers or passenger flow management – airports can reduce costs and accelerate processes with a modular technology stack.

‘Our solutions enable airport operators to identify security risks at an early stage, respond in a targeted manner and make operational processes significantly more efficient,’ summarises Karlheinz Biersack, Director of Business Development Airport at Dallmeier.

inter airport Europe 2025 thus reveals a clear trend: integrated video and radar solutions are evolving from optional add-ons to standard tools for modern airport infrastructure.
