Warning app now also available with widgets directly on the home screen
Wiesbaden. A new update for hessenWARN is now available in the app stores. With the new widget function, users of the free safety app can directly access the Hessian reporting systems in the safety portal via the home screen.
“Hessen has done pioneering work with the development of the safety app hessenWARN. For about four years now, the citizens of Hessen have been able to receive even more comprehensive, better and more individualised preventive information about possible danger situations in their immediate living environment. Whether about storm hazards, fires, bombs, missing persons or school cancellations. From now on, the new function of ‘widgets’ allows users to directly access the functions of the recently introduced safety portal with just one click. In this way, users can reach the integrated police online watch, the HessenGegenHetze reporting centre or the regional defect reporter even faster. This new function of hessenWARN further expands the communication between citizens and the state in line with our security strategy ‘Together Safe in Hessen’. Already, more than 300,000 Hessians use the app and are informed daily about possible dangerous or extreme situations. All hessenWARN users are therefore cordially invited to download the update and all those who do not yet use our app to install the app with the functional extension,” said Interior Minister Peter Beuth.
With the update of the warning app, users will for the first time be able to create so-called widgets. This means that they can add an element to the home screen of the smartphone that allows direct access to the security portal of the State of Hesse quickly and easily. The aim of this development was to closely dovetail the warning app with the safety portal (https://sicherheitsportal.hessen.de), which was introduced at the beginning of February and can be used, for example, to file complaints, send tips or report defects.
“According to the motto ‘Security is a common task’, the citizen is no longer the sole passive recipient of security measures by the state. In Hessen, they can and should actively participate in improving security and the feeling of safety in their living environment. To make this happen quickly and digitally, we have launched the online security portal. With their smartphone, every Hessian can now report defects in their own environment to the security authorities or municipalities and thus contribute to an improved sense of security. We are aware of how important a good sense of security is for the quality of life in our Hessian communities. That is why we are strengthening the sense of security with tailor-made solutions on the ground,” said Peter Beuth.
