‘Everyday heroes’ – Bavaria’s Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann at the 7th State Conference on Security Guards in Ingolstadt: More and more security guards for more security – Honours for special services

Bavaria’s Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann had good news for the 7th State Conference on Security Guards in Ingolstadt today: “The expansion of security guards in Bavaria continues to make great strides. The number of volunteers and participating municipalities is increasing from year to year.” Currently, 1,381 safety watch members are involved across Bavaria (+112 compared to October 2022), 447 of them women (+36). They are volunteering in 165 security guards (+6) in 255 cities and municipalities (+42). Herrmann set a target of around 1,500 security guards in Bavaria. The Minister of the Interior appealed to all municipalities and cities in Bavaria without security guards to consider introducing them. “Every municipality can benefit from the Bavarian Security Guard,” Herrmann emphasised. “The Bavarian police are there to provide advice and support. All costs are completely covered by the Free State.”

As Herrmann made clear, the Bavarian security patrols increase the sense of security and help prevent crime and disorder. The security patrols are equipped and trained by the local police department. They receive a wide range of training and modern clothing and equipment. According to Herrmann, the equipment with pedelecs, for example, is to be further expanded in the future.

Today, the Minister of the Interior honoured four men and women of the Bavarian Security Guard as ‘everyday heroes’ with a certificate and a glass stele for their special services and many years of commitment:

– Petra Mittermüller and Dzemail Kadrijevic-Eichinger: founding members of the Ingolstadt Safety Watch (1994).

– Dr. Arthur Bechert: Founding member of the Regensburg Safety Watch (1996)

– Michael Dirscherl: Founding member of the Landshut Safety Watch (1998)
