Economic Security Day 2025 in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt: ‘Secure. Connected. Protected.’ – Strategies against cyber attacks and espionage

Under the motto ‘Secure. Connected. Protected. Strategies against cyber attacks and espionage’, Saxony-Anhalt hosted the 6th State Economic Protection Day today. The event was organised by the Ministry of the Interior and Sport and the Halle-Dessau Chamber of Industry and Commerce. It brought together representatives from business, security authorities, science and administration to discuss current challenges in economic protection.

The focus was on the growing dangers posed by cyber attacks and espionage activities, which are increasingly affecting small and medium-sized enterprises. Home Secretary Dr Tamara Zieschang emphasised in her speech the urgency of investing in IT security:

‘Cyber attacks can cause massive damage and threaten German companies – including those in Saxony-Anhalt. The majority of these attacks originate from foreign actors, primarily from Russia and China, and are increasingly affecting small and medium-sized enterprises. It is therefore logical that companies should invest significantly more in IT security.’

Presentations by experts from the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the Federal Intelligence Service and the Federal Office for Information Security provided insights into current threats and practical recommendations for protecting sensitive data and infrastructure. Two companies from Saxony-Anhalt also reported first-hand on their experiences with cyber attacks and presented strategies for successful defence.

The event was moderated by ARD security expert Michael Götschenberg.

The Economic Protection Day is organised annually by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution of Saxony-Anhalt. The aim is to combine theory and practice, provide information on current developments and strengthen cooperation between business and security authorities. In view of increasing hybrid threats, targeted disinformation campaigns and complex cyber attacks, this networking will become even more important in the future.
