June 5, 2023

  • University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) introduces “Visual & Experience Design” as a Master’s programme for the first time in the United Arab Emirates and qualifies students for top jobs in the international design industry
  • Two Master’s degree programmes “Data Sciences” and “Software Engineering” will start in autumn 2023, further degree programmes such as “Innovation Design Management” and “Business Management Studies” will follow in spring 2024

The private University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) is expanding its student offering with the launch of its new campus in the Middle East. UE will be the first German university to welcome students in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), from autumn 2023, thus taking off in one of the world’s most dynamic cities.

Up to 1,300 students from all over the world will learn, network and plan their future together on around 1,000 square metres of the new UE campus in the “Future District”, which is also home to top international business companies. In Dubai’s new “German Corner”, students can pick the best of both worlds and combine the high quality of a German education with practical experience from one of the world’s most innovative and technologically leading cities.

Innovative degree programmes bring German higher education to the Gulf region

Starting in September 2023, UE Dubai will initially launch three master’s programmes, followed by additional programmes in spring 2024. The offer includes two Master of Science: Data Science and Software Engineering. These programmes provide students with skills and methodological knowledge for jobs in the fields of big data and new technologies, as well as innovative thinking and data-based decision-making. All the best prerequisites to equip oneself for the ever-changing technological world of work.

UE Dubai will also launch the first Master of Arts in Visual & Experience Design in the UAE. This degree programme provides knowledge on how to develop functional, sustainable and user-friendly user interfaces. Graduates of this programme work to make products visual as well as tangible, combining technological know-how with creative design. They can pursue promising careers in design and technology, for example as design strategists, product developers or “creative directors”.

Commenting on UE’s move to Dubai, Professor Maurits van Rooijen, President of UE and UE Dubai Campus, said: “We are delighted to be the first university from Germany to open a campus in Dubai. With our degree programmes in innovation, tech and design, we are right at home in this dynamic and vibrant city. Our degree programmes are tailored to the needs of the regional markets and offer students the opportunity to gain practical experience in an inspiring environment and make initial contacts for their careers. Businesses in the area have already given us an enthusiastic welcome and we are very much looking forward to working with them.”

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KDHA) is also looking forward to the opening of the new college. Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Director General of KHDA, says: “Dubai’s position as an international higher education hub has been strengthened by the addition of the University of Europe for Applied Sciences in Dubai. The university’s programme offerings in business, science and design will support Dubai’s growth and enable graduates to compete in a globalised world. We welcome UE students and faculty to Dubai.”

All degree programmes are accredited in Germany and prepare students for the job markets of the future. Within the framework of university partnerships with international companies from the business, tech and finance sectors, UE brings practical elements into the studies from the very beginning.

UE in Dubai – Shaping the Future Together

Particularly attractive for future students at the new campus are the numerous amenities that studying in Dubai brings with it: Affordable tuition fees, a state-of-the-art campus and nearby student residences. Studying in the Emirates not only allows for an international educational experience, but also to gain life experiences and take on new perspectives.
