Spotting AI fraud, digital ID, virtual meetings – Bitkom’s activities for Digital Day

June 19, 2026

  • Opportunities to get involved, have your say and help shape the future for greater digital inclusion
  • Nationwide Digital Day takes place online and in person on 26 June

What is the EUDI Wallet? How can I spot AI fraud? How do I access virtual reality? What is needed for a more inclusive digital Germany? And also: Who can help me with urgent technical problems? This coming Friday, 26 June, Bitkom will be taking part in the nationwide Digital Day with numerous events and will provide answers to these and many other questions from the digital world. Through interactive workshops, high-profile panel discussions, and explanatory and hands-on sessions, digitalisation is brought to life and made accessible – both in person and online.

Digital Day is Germany’s largest day of action for digital participation and was launched in 2020 by the ‘Digital for All’ initiative. Bitkom is part of the initiative, a broad alliance of 27 organisations from the fields of civil society, culture, science, business, welfare and the public sector. Around 2,000 events are taking place nationwide to mark Digital Day. The programme organised by Bitkom includes, amongst other things:

  • Digital Day Festival@Bitkom – Practical technical support and on-site workshops: Whether you have a specific question, an urgent technical problem or are simply interested in learning something new about digitalisation – the Digital Day Festival is open to anyone who wants to learn more about the digital world in a friendly, social setting. On 26 June from 1 pm to 4 pm, volunteer digital advisers from the Digital-Café Charlottenburg initiative will be available at the Bitkom office to answer any questions regarding digital forms, devices and applications. At a ‘market of opportunities’ and in workshops, seven further partner organisations – such as the Berlin State Criminal Police Office (LKA Berlin) and the Berlin Mitte Adult Education Centre – will also provide information on support services for the digital world. The event will take place at Albrechtsstraße 10, 10117 Berlin; no registration is required.
  • Mobile Citizens’ Office@Bitkom – Last-minute passport or ID card: Is your passport or ID card about to expire and the holidays just around the corner? From 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm, the Mobile Citizens’ Office will also be on site at the Bitkom office. You can apply for a passport or identity card without an appointment, and the biometric passport photos required for this can also be taken on site.
  • Hybrid seminar – What’s behind the EUDI Wallet: No longer carrying your identity card in your pocket, but on your smartphone – with the EU Wallet, it will soon be possible to identify yourself, provide proof of identity or share data digitally. This hybrid event will explain exactly how the EU Wallet is intended to work, where it will be used and how data protection is handled, whilst also providing space for discussion and questions. Speakers will include Dr Markus Reichel, Member of the German Bundestag (CDU), Benjamin Schaufler (SPRIND) and Marielle Findorff (Federal Association of Consumer Organisations). Online access link or registration form for on-site participation here, 26 June, 10:00–11:45).
  • Online seminar – Spotting AI fraud: Deceptively realistic images, voices, videos and messages – AI is making online fraud increasingly convincing.
  • In a webinar with the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), we will highlight common scams targeting consumers and businesses, and explain how to recognise AI-based fraud and what to do if you suspect it (23 June, 9.30–10.30 am).
  • Online seminar – Exploring with AR and VR: What is the virtual world and how do I get there? In this online seminar, you can experience how virtual worlds are already being used in everyday life – from schools and museums to concert halls. Following insights from experts, there will be a virtual get-together for participants to exchange ideas. You can take part either via VR headsets or on a standard screen using a browser after registering (26 June, 12:00–13:00).
  • Livestream – Bitkom Tacheles: Disinformation, hybrid threats and attacks in the digital space are putting social cohesion and the culture of democratic debate to the test. This edition of Bitkom Tacheles will therefore discuss how digital resilience in our society can be strengthened, how people can be empowered to engage safely in the digital world, and what role politics, business and civil society play in this. Participants include Dr Konrad Körner, Member of the Bundestag (CSU), and Jeanne Dillschneider, Member of the Bundestag (Alliance 90/The Greens) (live stream on 26 June, 8.00–8.45 am).
  • Podcast – Wintergerst meets Bentele: How can we pave the way to an inclusive digital Germany? Bitkom President Dr Ralf Wintergerst discusses this with Verena Bentele, President of the social welfare organisation VdK Deutschland, to mark Digital Day 2026. The focus is on accessible digital services, digital skills, data security and the question of why, despite all the progress made, analogue alternatives are still needed. You can find the conversation from Monday 22 June here and on the usual audio streaming platforms.
