A healthcare provider relies on Validato to professionalise background checks – resulting in lower insider risks, faster onboarding processes and greater trust among patients and employees.
The Swiss healthcare system is under enormous pressure: rising patient numbers, a shortage of skilled workers and, at the same time, the highest standards of data protection and compliance. To survive in this environment, you need not only medical excellence, but also robust processes in the background.
A leading healthcare provider in Zurich was confronted with a delicate situation: lengthy onboarding processes led to delays in new hires, while internal audits revealed that evidence of verification processes was lacking. The danger was real – if insider risks are not consistently addressed, sensitive patient data can be compromised. In addition, there was the threat of regulatory sanctions for violations of the GDPR, revDSG or ISO 27001.
The management decided to tackle the problem strategically and implemented Validato. The aim was to no longer treat background checks as an isolated obligation, but as an integral part of human risk management.
The implementation took place in three steps:
- Role-based screening: Comprehensive checks were introduced for high-risk positions such as IT administration or patient data management – including identity validation, references and educational qualifications. For low-risk positions, checks were limited to basic checks such as work permits.
- Digital processes: All screening steps were automated and integrated into existing HR systems. This reduced sources of error and enabled audit-proof documentation.
- Transparent communication: Applicants were able to view the status of their screening at any time – an important factor for candidate experience and employer branding.
‘The integration of Validato enabled us to carry out checks not only faster, but also more transparently. Audit trails can now be presented at any time, and compliance with DSG and ISO 27001 is verifiable,’ explains Marco Marti, CTO of Validato.
The results speak for themselves: onboarding times have been reduced by almost 40%, compliance evidence in audits has been significantly improved, and the trust of patients and employees has been strengthened. Particularly noteworthy is that employee turnover in critical areas has decreased because the company is perceived as a fair and secure employer.
‘Trust is particularly important in the healthcare sector. With Validato, we are demonstrating that security and fairness go hand in hand – and that we offer patients and employees the highest standard of protection,’ adds Reto Marti, COO of Validato.
Today, the provider is considered best practice in the Swiss market. The success story shows that taking background checks seriously not only ensures compliance but also creates a sustainable competitive advantage.
